TIL that the word lavender is derived from the same root word that *launder/laundry" does: Proto-Indo European *leue - to wash.
Lavender was used to make laundry smell nice.

Legit. My granny would pin her smalls out on the lavender bushes to dry, not the line. And made lavender bags every year to deter moths.

Ooooo I like that!! I need a lavender bush, it’s my favourite smell! But my balcony gets almost no direct sunlight, so I don’t think it would survive lol!
But if/when I move, I’ll be pinning my smalls all over that lavender haha

As essential as a lemon tree imo

So many different kinds too, I think if I get my own garden I’ll plant a special lavender garden of all the different kinds with a little blue ageratum border. There are so many lovely colours and shapes. www.gardenmandy.com/types-of-lavender-plants/

I got a double lavender plant earlier this year. It hasn’t flowered since I planted it, but its so pretty. I also have established English and French lavenders that I harvest for little smelly wardrobe bags.
