frezik@midwest.social 1 week agoOh, they did. Telling if someone was really dead was difficult until modern medicine figured it out in the last century or so. People got buried alive by unwitting village elders all the time.

it was common enough that the “Safety Coffin” was invented to help deal with it. If you heard a bell ringing in the graveyard, someone was alive down there.
