ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 3 days agoI have a friend who has a quick access weapon for defense. But he keeps the AR in the corner of his bedroom, a loaded magazine, not chambered. But has a curious 2 year old in his house. And that’s just one instance from a single friend. And he rationalizes it, saying he keeps the door locked. (Which isn’t true because the time we came over and noticed it, the door was wide open)
And this is coming from me, who fairly recently got into firearms and got my CCW. Sometimes the lack of priority for safety just leaves me astounded. This is why statistics happen.
Yeah, I don’t own any guns because I have very curious kids. I’m thinking about getting one, but I’m still not sure what kind of storage to get.
And then there are those idiots on the road that flash their handgun if you honk at them.
I think we should have mandatory gun safety training in schools. Teach kids to respect firearms and learn how to secure them.

You know where none of this happens? Europe. Because guns are mostly putlawei ( Switzerland being a huge exception but it works way different there)
We don’t give guns to idiots. Even there, statistically, sometimes it happens and yeah, sometimes, like once every few years, there is something really bad.
In the US there is something really bad every few days and because of continuous lies (hello fox news!) people have no way to fix this super simple problem.
Prohibit. All. Guns.
And ammo.
Within 2 years, when the last of all the surplus bullets have been fired and people start running out of ammo, and the illegal fabs have been raken down, suddenly you will find yourself with news that has nothing exciting to yell about how you’re all going to die in the purge because shootingz will be from the past.
