The decline in quality has nothing to do with HBO. The fan subreddit had guessed the twist of season one long before it was revealed.
And it genuinely feels like during the second season, the showrunners were more focused on outsmarting the fans than writing a coherent and properly paced story.

Hate shit like this. Same thing happened with Lost. Just focus on making a good story, then if people figure it out ahead of time… so what? You’ve still made something good

Oh i’ve never heard of this! So the story originally intended to go in a different direction? Where can i read about that? Is there a particular post where this was discussed?

I don’t know if the story was intended to be different. I’m just saying that’s how it felt to me while watching it. And I guess you can find many posts on reddit discussing the decline in quality from various angles.
