- Comment on Squad, Offworld's tactical FPS should now run better on Linux with EAC issues fixed 5 months ago:
Squad is an awesome game, and I’ve played hundreds of hours on Proton. However, unless performance has drastically improved since last December, I would not recommend trying to play it on Steam Deck. I got about 20fps, with regular and significant drops. It is a seriously good game though for those who like a good tactical multiplayer shooter. OWI also makes a Starship Troopers game and Squad 44 (sort of a WW2 version of Squad but different, does not run on Proton due to EAC) so I hope they get the same treatment.

My Deck is for playing single player games when I can’t use my desktop, such as when I’m on the train heading to work. I’ve finished more games since I’ve had the Deck than the few years before that. Love that thing.

Oops. I was in a Cafe on wifi and it kept saying that it couldn’t post 😬

I don’t own DayZ, have been tempted to buy it plenty of times but never bit the bullet. I used to play the Arma 2 mod when it first exploded which was hella fun but soooo buggy. Anyway, it warmed my heart to read your account of the game’s performance and to see how far it has come - even more tempted to get it.
I am also consistently impressed with the Deck and what it manages to achieve across a variety of games. I’ve been using it docked with a 1080 screen for the last couple of weeks due to travelling, and with some tweaking I am playing all of the games I want to play. Sure, some run better than others, but with some concessions they all run in an acceptable manner.
