Prepare for the weather properly! Your friend should take care of most of the tough parts, but one thing you can do is understand what “the mountains” means in your area.
For example, for me the mountains in Colorado get down below freezing still this time of year, so if I were camping I’d need to ensure I have a proper sleeping bag (temperature rated for the overnight temps you’ll be in up in the mountains) and pad to go under it (absolutely necessary for thermal reasons really any time you’re camping) plus clothes to wear overnight, such as thermal tops and bottoms and socks, even a hat/beanie if it’s cold enough. If you’ve never camped in cold weather, it can be intimidating, miserable, or even deadly if you’re unprepared. I absolutely love doing it (I use a hammock and not a tent, it’s a blast).
However your friend may have most of this for you, so focus on your clothes, he should probably have advice on this topic as well.
Enjoy your first time! It can be an incredible experience with the right company and planning. It’s always fun to connect with nature and disconnect from our everyday lives and technology.
- Comment on Instead of Orange Man doing Tariffs would it not have been better for him to talk about shopping locally and so forth. And giving more tax breaks to companies that stay and sell in the US? 1 week ago:
Yeah, certainly if he were a normal President. But he’s a textbook narcissist who only gives a shit about himself and capitulating to the ultra elite. Throw some performance goals set up by his boss Vladimir Putin, and what do you get?
Absolute fucking chaos alongside fleecing the lower 99.99% for anything you can get and manufacturing a crash in the stock market so you and your elite friends can, you guessed it, profit from it tremendously.
A rational president, you bet. This dude is not that.

- Comment on Nintendo president responds to Switch 2 price increase fears amid Trump tariff fallout 4 weeks ago:
Yeah I’m not in it at either price point. I’ll for once be a patient gamer and wait until it’s reasonable or I’ll skip this one. I’m betting there’s lots like us.
- Comment on So this is it, is trump god? Will Republicans sacrifice their own well being to own the libs? 4 weeks ago:
You literally swear on the Bible before taking office
Haha and even more ironic here is that trump skipped this step this time and nobody said a word.
- Comment on Are Nintendo's $80 online game prices a result of tariffs or is Nintendo just using them as an excuse to price gouge as corporations do? 4 weeks ago:
Well I’ve had essentially every console Nintendo has ever produced, but at least for now I’m not excited about the switch 2 for this very reason, I’m fairly put off about it.
I’m either going to buy a steamdeck or wait for the cost to go down (Nintendo is usually firm with their pricing though) on the Switch 2 before I’ll ever buy it or any games.
Especially while the US languishes under trump for the next nearly four years. I’m not going to have a lot of extra space for added expenses and price gouging.

- Comment on Why don't people going to college get HUD, Food Stamps, and free Medicare/Medicaid while enrolled? Instead of the parents footing the bill or the student working 3 jobs and school? 2 months ago:
I was an orphan at the time, but when I was putting myself through college I had food stamps and it helped me a ton with keeping me fed. I was fortunate to have that program available to me at that time in my life. I also worked several jobs at the same time.
- Comment on Can you actually suffocate to death from holding your breath? 2 months ago:
I don’t think so, but I’m certainly not an expert on the subject. However, I would think at worst you could hold it until you pass out. Once you pass out, your body would no longer consciously be purposely trying not to breathe, and you would then start breathing before you regain consciousness.
Logically that’s how I think it would go, at least.

Nope! I was fortunate that I never had any issues with dryness.

Many, like me, require no treatments as well.
Also, all of us have close vision issues when we hit our mid forties or so due to our weakening muscles in our eyes, it’s something you can also treat with LASIK, but most use reading glasses.
Can’t beat Father Time!
However, my biggest challenge was distance vision (near-sightedness) and that will never go away, so again life long change for many with no downside.
As always, each person is different and you should be evaluated for a fit for the procedure. Some people have complications like many surgical procedures, and many/most do not.
- Comment on Is it possible to fix one's eyesight? What are working methods? What is to be cautious about? 4 months ago:
I had bladeless LASIK in 2013, taking my glasses prescription from 20/170 to 20/12.5.
You read that right, there’s better than 20/20 which is considered perfect. 20/10 is as low as most measurements go. I’m right between 20/10 and 20/15.
11 years later in my early 40s, my vision hasn’t changed one bit, still seeing better than “perfect”.
The procedure took less than 5 minutes per eye and I was good to go really the next day.
It’s the best money I’ve spent on anything in my life and I would do it again a thousand times if I had a thousand chances to choose again. And I have a TON of hobbies.
If you get evaluated and are a good candidate, go for it! It’s life changing to not have to mess with glasses or contacts, being free to do watersports and winter sports with no hassle.

- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 6 months ago:
My Comcast has a terabyte monthly data cap. They will send you an email if you get close to it, and if memory serves they allow you one time to go over it before they charge you some.
Even with downloading many big games sometimes when I refresh my PC and using streaming video apps all the time, I’ve never hit it but have come close several times. I also work from home.
