I was in the same boat. When I couldn’t take it anymore I quit. I have been unemployed for just under two years now. Whatever you end up doing, stay strong.

Well that was certainly a ride! Can’t believe I watched that whole thing but it was compelling.
- Comment on Is it possible to install my own OS on a "smart" TV? Is that a thing? 6 days ago:
I believe that’s called a monitor. Just buy a bigass monitor or projector.

We’re a year deep into the slaughter of Gaza.
- Comment on How do Americans win their country back? 2 weeks ago:
I would hope so, but americans have proven time and time again that they are spineless.
- Comment on Is it cheaper to use a plug-in oil radiator to eat an individual room, or run the central heater to heat an individual room and living room? 3 weeks ago:
Run both. Central to keep the house from freezing and radiators to make whichever room(s) comfortable.
- Comment on What do I put down on my resume? 3 weeks ago:
You’ll be recertifying at every company you work for (pretty sure that’s an OSHA requirement). Start making a list of all the equipment you’ve used with dates and certs, and let that grow on your resume. The longer that list gets, the more people you’re going to beat out for jobs. Just the fact that the list exists will put you over the majority of warehouse applicants.
- Comment on How are scammers getting my email address? 3 weeks ago:
Look up “National Private Data Breach”. You’ll find a bunch of articles on it. Although someone else posted a newer one that I haven’t heard about so maybe that one’s worse. I would highly suggest that everyone put a freeze on your credit until you need to apply for something. Lots of identify theft happening since this occured.
- Comment on How are scammers getting my email address? 3 weeks ago:
A few months ago was the largest data breach possibly ever. Something like 300GB of personal information. Basically everyone in the US. They have everything on everyone and it’s being passed all around on the dark web like skittles. The mainstream media didn’t cover this for whatever reason.
- Comment on Is lemmy really any different from reddit? 3 weeks ago:
The two communities are vastly different, in size, mentality and number of bots.
- Comment on Why do cell phones have a data limit but home internet doesn't? 4 weeks ago:
In the past it was due to technical constraints.
Now it’s just greed.
- Comment on Do you actually care about your friend's new baby, vacation abroad or similar life events or are you just being nice? 5 weeks ago:
In general I don’t care. I too have come to realize that I’m autistic. It’s a shame that I didn’t understand this until my 40’s.
I have found though that I will care if it’s a topic I am also interested in. Babies don’t interest me, and in fact annoy me. So that one is out. Most life events, don’t care.
Vacation stuff? Ok now I’m listening because I do like to travel and I may learn something. Wanna discuss engineering? We could go for hours.
I guess the threshold is, will I get anything out of this conversation? Which, maybe is selfish, maybe it’s autism, I donno. I’m happy that you’re happy about the thing but if I’m being honest with myself I don’t care unless it effects me.
That’s specific to the topics OP is describing and not all conversations. If someone is in need of guidance of something I’m happy to share my knowledge. I am fortunately not a narcissist.

This was Adobe’s strategy with Photoshop. They basically let the piracy happen knowing everyone would learn and stick with their software.
- Comment on Why do phone manufacturers use in-display fingerprint readers instead of fingerprint readers on the power button? 1 month ago:
This so much! And it’s eragonomic no matter which hand you use. My new phone has it on the power button and it’s just ok. I miss having a rear touch sensor.
- Comment on Why do social workers get upset when you don't want their help? 2 months ago:
So true. If you’re not following the life script people freak the fuck out. Want to live in a vehicle? Don’t want kids? Don’t want to be married? Into BDSM? Your political views land on both sides? People just don’t know what to do with anyone that doesn’t fit in a box.

- Comment on Uber and Lyft now required to pay Massachusetts rideshare drivers $32 an hour 4 months ago:
(And brother - driving for uber is not “running your own business”… it’s being maximally-exploited by a business… with no liability-protection, no security, and almost zero rights.)
Both can be true! There’s a reason I quit that shit years ago.
- Comment on Uber and Lyft now required to pay Massachusetts rideshare drivers $32 an hour 4 months ago:
I’m not arguing that this is a good deal or met whatever goal. I’m just saying it’s an upgrade. Also, as a former uber driver, there are strategies to make the best use of your time. If this new wage applied to my location I would buy a car and make a killing. That said, I’m in the minority that prefers to run their own business rather than be an employee so if I have to be a wage slave again then no thanks.
- Comment on Uber and Lyft now required to pay Massachusetts rideshare drivers $32 an hour 4 months ago:
That sounds reasonable and still a massive upgrade for drivers.
