- Comment on Why do websites now prefer IP-based geolocation rather than the `Accept-Language` HTTP header? 2 days ago:
AliExpress in particular is terrible with however they’re going about language selection. I have had this happen countless times and I don’t even travel or use a VPN. Like it’s based on a merchant you viewed or some other nonsense.
- Comment on Oil company funds computer game that promotes fossil fuels to schoolchildren 5 days ago:
Correct. That is the shithole we are currently living in (excluding the few countries that give a fuck about children). For an example of someone born from shitty parents in a shitty society “educated” by the shitty public system of the USA, I present you with… Me.
- Comment on Oil company funds computer game that promotes fossil fuels to schoolchildren 5 days ago:
The crappy parents unfortunately.
- Comment on I hate Samsung and their dumb software design choices, and this is one of them. Why do I need a SIM card to enable a hotspot whereas every other phone works without one? 5 days ago:
Both of those are such a scam. Greed has ruined this country.
- Comment on I hate Samsung and their dumb software design choices, and this is one of them. Why do I need a SIM card to enable a hotspot whereas every other phone works without one? 5 days ago:
Many carriers sell hotspot as a data capped premium feature. They probably want a SIM so you can be monitored and charged for using your own device on your own network and services that you’ve already paid for. Because greed.
- Comment on Why do so many people delete their posts? 1 week ago:
Downvotes are not what I’m afraid of. I shouldn’t have to explain this to someone with your username.
- Comment on Why do so many people delete their posts? 1 week ago:
What I still post here is still genuine. I’m just biting my tongue about certain topics. No different than one would do while at work.
- Comment on Why do so many people delete their posts? 1 week ago:
It was with great pain that I recently deleted something like 50 to 100 of my own posts. They were all political. Lots of great discussions. But we live in a time where having the wrong kind of history on social media could make you a target either now or in the future. I’m sure a lot of that is still floating around one way or another but if I can reduce any spotlights on my ass it’s something I felt I had to do.
Since then I haven’t deleted anything. I try to keep my posts non-political. In my real life I am now focusing on bettering myself. I’ve given up on trying to change the country or anything like that. It can all they to ash. I’ve ran out of fucks to give.
But hey, I’m contributing on !loweffortmemes@crazypeople.online again, so there’s that.
- Comment on Why don't people like Melon Tusk get tired of the shit they gave you pull through literally every day ? I mean doesn't the guilt of bad decisions pull them down enough like the rest of us ? 1 week ago:
Some people may alter names and words to avoid retaIiation if/when the oIigarchs figure out how to scrap Iemmy for keywords in search for those who may oppose them. This is already happening on other pIatforms.
I don’t have a solution to this dilemma.
I will continue to protect myself in favor of assisting others to keep their heads in the sand.

One more reason to use Aurora Store instead of Google Play. Or better yet, F-Droid.

Yeah I’m going to start with Mint. If that doesn’t satisfy my inner geek I’ll branch out. I’ve got several PC’s for different uses so I wouldn’t be opposed to eventually having different distros for each of those purposes.

This is the way. As soon as they hear “charge back” they’re going to scramble to satisfy you. If they don’t, they have no idea how screwed they’re going to be after too many of those.
- Comment on Max pulling THIS shit every time I finish watching Last Week Tonight 2 months ago:
I haven’t paid him much attention the last few years but that’s always been how I’ve felt about him.
Even if he’s wrong half the time, at least he thinks for himself. That’s a quality I respect in people, which is sadly lacking these days. People are right about his arrogant attitude though. Probably why I stopped paying attention to him.
- Comment on [deleted] 2 months ago:
He’ll either come to realize the truth on his own, or prove you wrong. Either way, you should support him.
- Comment on Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)? 2 months ago:
If you’re behind $1000 in taxes for a $250000 house doesn’t mean the government takes your whole house and you get nothing.
They typically sell it at auction and you get the leftovers.
And that seems fair to you?
- Comment on Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)? 2 months ago:
Indeed, you are not understanding. I do not own or rent a home. So again I ask, why are you paying more taxes than me?
- Comment on Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)? 2 months ago:
Nobody is disputing the need for taxes or what their purpose is. The issue is that taxing a homestead is effectively a lease, even if not written as such.
It also begs the question, why are you being taxed more than me? We use the same roads, schools and services. Yet assuming you’re a homeowner you’re paying more for the same shit.
- Comment on Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)? 2 months ago:
I guess a dollar amount could just be expected from every single person regardless of circumstance. Would that be better?
Yes, that would make far more sense to me than tying it to something arbitrary like land. Failure to pay should not result in homelessness. Especially after a lifetime to paying for said home.
- Comment on Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)? 2 months ago:
Having to continue to pay for something that you “own” does not sound like ownership to many people.
- Comment on Why do some say they own or have bought something that they technically haven't (e.g. domain names, expensive things, etc.)? 2 months ago:
The big one of course is home ownership, despite having to pay the government for the rest of your life.

- Comment on How are you feeling? 2 months ago:
tend to act unconsciously towards my own self-preservation and interest.
I don’t see that as a fault. One must take care of themselves first, then if possible, take on the burden of others.
Many people do the opposite and tend to everyone’s needs but their own. Then they fall apart at some point, never fulfilled.
You may have codependent friends or family like that skewing your perception of what’s best, causing you all this undue guilt.
