- Comment on Researchers uncover critical vulnerability in Microsoft's Multi-Factor Authentication, allowing attackers to gain access to user accounts such as Outlook emails, OneDrive files, Teams chat, and more 16 hours ago:
That’s not an MS thing, that’s the way your admins configured it. There are methods for doing system wide, once every X hours authentication, but chances are they don’t know that or went overkill with the settings to “be more secure”

That already exists with PayPal and Apple Pay for example. The remote site never sees your credit card, just an approval token. You won’t be able to get away from address though as they need to know how to get it to you.

- Comment on How to get back into academia for a masters degree after being out for 20+ years? 2 weeks ago:
So one thing I see people skipping is the requirements. Depending on what your undergrad is and what you want to go for for your masters you may have to take some “redmedial” classes as your degree skills may not transfer or be considered too old. This will extend the amount of time you need to complete your degree.
Also, what is the reason you want to go back for it? It is just the desire to have the degree or is there an end goal you have after it? It may not be cost effective in the long run.

$50? So it was almost the price of another new game for what? A few more characters?
- Comment on If I go to Canada can I retire there and draw SS from the US? Also can I go to Canada buy a cabin or house with a plot of land and not work? Unless I just needed some walking around money? 3 weeks ago:
I think the two biggest reasons behind that are 1) most EU/US passports give you near unfettered access to most the world and 2) the Schengen zone makes that a reality at least within the EU.

I found this announcement after the fact but explains why I couldn’t access things.
Honestly, I’m never really concerned with downtime on Lemmy.ee, you are so on top of it that if it goes down I know it’ll be up again in a couple hours and gives me a chance to go touch grass.
Thank you for all you do!

- Comment on Before buying this printer, I made a quick search to confirm that it has wifi connectivity... (the algorithm lied to me) 4 weeks ago:
So one thing I tend to do when researching a product is search for “<model_name> specs” or “specifications”. I usually try to see if they have a marketing slick or one pager of what the item has to find it out. If worse comes to worse I’ll browse the user manual, if something is ambiguous but majority of the times that search will help me find what I need.

- Comment on Seeking feedback: how should lemm.ee move forward with external images? (related to frequent broken images) 1 month ago:
I’d lean towards option 3. I view this site as an aggregator and I see plenty of broken images when scrollling through here. It’s not your job to host or proxy those images and working in infrastructure it lends to a lot lighter weight instance that’s easier for you to manage without having to worry about disk, or even worse, bandwidth costs.
The only way I would see option 2 being more beneficial is if it was truly a temporary cache solution where the image gets pulled in 1 time, served out to all lemm.ee users for a period of time (say 24 hours). This would reduce the chance that you end up rate limited, while allowing users to still see the image served via lemm.ee
The proxy on every request solution just seems poorly implemented to me for the reasons you say.

I’d be good if it was a game set in the universe where you’re a bender but not one of the main cast. For example if you’re in the fire nation you’re in the military and may have run ins with them. Same with the other tribes. You could do unique situations for each element and not be tied to the main characters
