Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, the cyberpunk aesthetic, Linux, photographing graffiti, and firmware modding.
I’ve switched instances a few times due to technical issues.
- Comment on Beloved and janky spy RPG Alpha Protocol returns to Steam after four year absence 18 hours ago:
Glad it’s back. It was considered abandonware for a while there.
I played it on my PS3 not too long ago and it’s definitely a middle of the road game. It feels ambitious and like it fell flat at the same time. The game gives you a decent amount of choice but it didn’t feel fun enough to replay. For a spy game I didn’t think it had the best stealth mechanics.
- Comment on What's up with all the "___punk" stuff? 19 hours ago:
I believe the term punk has kind of drifted towards a catch-all term to describe something that clashes against what is considered the norm for most people.
There are definitely traditional punk themes in genres like cyberpunk and solarpunk. I feel like with dieselpunk and steampunk it’s largely a matter aesthetics.
Kind of an easy way to describe broad themes. If you are looking for a game similar to Mad Max for example with a post apocalypse desert that’s full of scavengers it might be easier to just use the term desertpunk.

- Comment on In Dystopika you are the chill landscaper of a vast cyberpunk city, and it is exactly my cup of noodles 1 day ago:
I could see that being a game I play sporadically or once and never again. At least it’s price fairly.
For those interested AirCar is another chill cyberpunk game. You fly around the city in VR. It can be a bit nauseating if start doing rolls though. It’s also free.
- Comment on Starfield will get at least one more expansion after Shattered Space, Todd Howard says 1 week ago:
Howard referred to Shattered Space as being in the vein of Bethesda’s other “annual story expansions”, adding that the developers hope to release additional content for Starfield for “a very long time". That means we’ll see at least one more big expansion, with Howard saying that the team “more or less” plan to put out annual DLC in a similar way to their previous games.
“We’re planning for the one after [Shattered Space], so there will be another one,” Howard then confirmed.
I feel like these two comments hint at different things. I hope there is more than one DLC to come.
I haven’t played Starfield yet but I’ve heard the base game can be kind of dull at times. I was hoping we would see some kind of No Man’s Sky or Cyberpunk 2077 changes to the base elements of the game that might address this.

What are you trying to do that you don’t think you can do on Linux? Also there’s ways to install Windows 11 on unsupported systems.
- Comment on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game engine OpenXRay gets taken down on GitHub 2 weeks ago:
Update - 11/01/2024, 11:55 AM UTC: The GitHub repository has been restored now. Hopefully this won’t happen in future, considering as noted below, GSC Game World actually gave it their blessing to be used. And thanks to the take-down, even more people now know about it. From the reversal notice, GitHub stated clearly after a review it was a fraudulent take-down.

- Comment on Why don't more websites/services offer 2FA? 3 weeks ago:
I was going to mention the support aspect. I believe some TOTP 2FA applications have automatic online backups by default but some don’t and require users to make their own backups. I can only imagine how challenging it would be to deal with users who have locked themselves out of their account due to their 2FA setup.
I had to go through that with itch.io a while back and had to verify my most recent purchases to recover my account. It was nice I was able to get it back but that in itself could be a security concern.
- Comment on Mentorship Monday - Discussions for career and learning! 3 weeks ago:
Does anyone have recommendations for educational material that is targeted at beginners who simply want to learn more and aren’t planning a career?
There have been a few times acquaintances have asked me what is available for a good introduction and general overview of large concepts but I’ve never had a solid answer. All I did was force myself to read books that yo-yoed above and below my knowledge level. Considering it’s kind of a passing interest that they won’t invest large amounts of time into it would probably be best if it wasn’t overly drawn out but at the same time covered enough to give them a general idea of key concepts and buzzwords they might hear. It might help if it came off as somewhat engaging so it sticks with them.
- Comment on What is the absolute max level of ear protection you can get? 3 weeks ago:
Your example made me wonder how effect coating yourself in sound padding tiles to the point you resemble a lychee fruit would be.
- Comment on What is the absolute max level of ear protection you can get? 3 weeks ago:
At that point, it was no longer sound but sheer pressure. You could feel it in your chest.
I wonder if there would be a way to counter that. Maybe some kind of sound-focused bomb suit developed for a single profession?
I imagine most situations are avoidable with modern technology allowing us to do things remotely but perhaps there was something used historically or as part of a “because I can” experiment.

I wonder how the shift from Reddit to Lemmy compares to the shift from Digg to Reddit.

You feel like there are more power tripping moderators here?
I feel like Lemmy has been pretty chill. Most communities are small enough they’re just happy to have some kind engagement. They haven’t been deleting my post because my title wasn’t formatted correctly or because it didn’t perfectly fit one ultra-specific niche

A lot of good answers. Cloverfield Lane is one of my favorite movies and I had no idea it was rated PG.

I definitely think those count. There’s a few places that list Matanago as unrated as well and I feel like age ratings change with the times.

The title kind of seems like clickbait. If you wanted to change that you could alter it to be something like:
Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities: The 165-Year-Old Novel That Helped Inspire ‘The Dark Knight Rises’
