Okay. I’m not from the UK so my comment is irrelevant!
- Comment on This seat reservation doesn't reserve any seats 2 days ago:
Okay, understandable. If we are just talking trains, Amtrak trains do the same and don’t issue seat numbers so in my experience the train is never crowded and every one gets a window seat which is preferred by many here rather than being seated next to a stranger.
- Comment on This seat reservation doesn't reserve any seats 2 days ago:
It can’t be overcrowded if the ticketing system works as it is supposed to. They can’t book 75 people for a train which can only seat 50.
- Comment on This seat reservation doesn't reserve any seats 2 days ago:
Southwest Airlines does their ticketing a similar way. You get assigned a boarding number but not a seat. So if you check in early you get a better boarding spot and hence a get to pick your seat. Does this mean there are more tickets issues than the available seats? No. Sightseeing cruises don’t have seat numbers either, you get there early and grab a good spot. This might not be common to people and hence they are mildly infuriated. The other option is paying extra to get a reserved seat which I’m sure will be infuriating because the person next to you paid a cheaper price.
- Comment on We need a new Amazon 3 days ago:
That happened to me a few times before. I got the shipment in 2 days through Amazon even though I ordered through eBay.
- Comment on This seat reservation doesn't reserve any seats 4 days ago:
It just says no “specific” seat reserved but you’ll have a seat reserved, you just don’t know which one. It’s good if you can get there early and get a window seat.
- Comment on We need a new Amazon 4 days ago:
But the cheap no name brand stuff from Amazon still come from the same factory in China. Only difference is you’ll get it in 2 days, pay more even though Amazon workers are underpaid and overworked and just make Bezos richer.
All the cheap no name brands are just the same Chinese products. One good example I have is, last year I got a knockoff Apple Watch band from Amazon as a gift for Christmas which was $10. Since it was the wrong size I bought one myself from AliExpress. When it arrived it had the same packaging and product number on it. Only difference is that it was $1 and took 2 weeks.
If you don’t buy cheap no name brand stuff from Amazon then this doesn’t apply to you but from my experience people buy the cheapest product and hence temu became popular.
- Comment on We need a new Amazon 4 days ago:
Not sure what you are looking for but I can easily buy the same stuff on eBay or Walmart or directly from the retailer. I do a search of Amazon and then google the same product to look at different website options.
- Comment on How Shopping Malls Are Being Transformed Into Apartments In The U.S. 2 weeks ago:
I’m thinking the same thing. Came here to the comments to see if someone mentioned it. I don’t get why they can’t have an electric stove.
Cool idea but it’ll only work out for people who don’t cook and eat microwave meals or take out everyday.
- Comment on [Tom Warren] The PS5 Pro still hasn’t sold out in the US or UK. Looks like the $700 price point will mean this console will be readily available this holiday 2 months ago:
It definitely is. The PS6 is going to be around $1000. When the phone prices went up I started to change phones every 4 years instead of 2. And now I will get the Slim instead of the Pro, even though I always get the latest and greatest.

To collaborate with the team, of course…
- Comment on Sony announces the PS5 Pro with a larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI upscaling 3 months ago:
Laws aren’t going to help keep the price down which is also an issue apart from the digital ownership. It’s always cheaper to buy physical games as they go on sale. What’s stopping Sony from selling PS Exclusive for $100 only in their store?
Are we going to get restricted to only buying from Sony store or is Best Buy going to sell me a box with a digital code?
- Comment on Why are doctors so hands off and unhelpful in the USA? 3 months ago:
This is just over generalization of your experience.
A primary care doctor should ask questions like if you are stressed out as it affects your life but they are not going to have a long non-medical related conversation because you are no longer a kid and also they won’t remember you until you go back the next time so why waste time when they can see other patients, unless it’s a psychiatrist. The questionnaire they have has all the required medical questions.
Doctors aren’t out to get your money. You don’t even pay them directly. Blame the health insurance companies for that. If they did want to take your money wouldn’t they make you do more tests and take more of your money? There are a lot of ways to get your money apart from anesthesia.
Maybe there is a different medical reason but it is certainly not to just to make your pay for anesthesia. I’m not in a medical field so I can’t into those details. However, I had some oral surgery and I refused anesthesia as I could handle the pain and didn’t want to pay more money. The surgeon didn’t force it on me. I’m not sure where you live but I hadn’t heard that we are forced to take anesthesia when it might not be required as it is has its own risk. Why would the hospital risk that? Just to make more money when they can just order other non-risky expensive tests?
- Comment on Amazon Contractors can't even sing in their cars now. Unions protect against this micromanagement. 3 months ago:
During the orientation they said we aren’t allowed to reach out to grab water or any snacks while driving, no touching the screen or dashboard to make any changes. My DSP (Delivery Service Partner) didn’t care to enforce that. Most of them would have AirPods in and talk on the phone all the time. So we weren’t flagged for talking or singing. But having those rules itself is terrible. It was just my temporary job and I hated how those employees are treated.

What are the tracking now? If employees are actually working? There were no social distancing protocols but I’m assuming there are cameras to prevent theft.
- Comment on Amazon Contractors can't even sing in their cars now. Unions protect against this micromanagement. 3 months ago:
Don’t see this happening everywhere. This is being done to save themselves from liability in an accident. They don’t have cameras watching their warehouse workers although they have rules like no earphones are allowed which are typical for safety in a warehouse or plant. I worked as an Amazon driver for a month. Everything they do or say is to cover their ass from getting sued.
- Comment on As Trump and Harris call to end tip taxes, a wider minimum wage war heats up 4 months ago:
You tip because they don’t make a minimum wage. I don’t get a tip when I do my work at my job. I certainly would be motivated to do a lot better if I got a tip after every meeting. I worked as a delivery driver and I did expect tips because I barely made money doing the deliveries but can’t expect it if I’m making a living wage.

Isn’t the WiFi free? It’s free for a reason. You aren’t forced to use it.
- Comment on eBay makes you wait a week to rate a sale as anything other than positive. 5 months ago:
Did you reach out to the seller to confirm? In my experience, if the listing has expired which happens when only one 1 item is being sold, eBay doesn’t show all the info after the sale. I try to look up old orders and this happens a lot. The sellers are usually responsive and care about their ratings so they will provide any listing clarification or even a refund before you can leave a negative review. eBay is also good with buyer protection if the sellers refuses a refund. I suspect eBay cannot change their reviews so there are giving time for the sellers to resolve any issues.
- Comment on Ironing 5 months ago:
Take your clothes out of the washer immediately, untangle them if necessary, and put them in the dryer. Don’t just dump all the clothes from washer to dryer. Remove the clothes from the dryer as soon as it’s done while they’re still warm. Hang shirts on hangers and put away the pants. Lastly, only buy new shirts and pants that are iron-free.
- Comment on Why do we have to do the health insurance company's job for them? 8 months ago:
Not sure how large but I recently got a bill for $3000 without having any issues. It took a while for it to get through the insurance but I didn’t have to make any calls. If you are disputing each charge and getting them to reduce the bill, then that’s a different story. Again, maybe only my experience has been good.
- Comment on Why do we have to do the health insurance company's job for them? 8 months ago:
Another post to feed America Bad and EU Good circlejerk on Lemmy.
Yes, the system is bad and we should have universal healthcare but I never had to call anyone to figure anything out in the past 15 years. The hospital sends me the bills after getting it through insurance. Not sure who your insurance provider is but this issue is not common.
- Comment on Why do we have to do the health insurance company's job for them? 8 months ago:
It is crazy because OPs case is not very common, at least in my experience. The hospital sends the bills to the insurance and later I get a bill for what I owe. I don’t need to make any calls.
- Comment on I just want to view the recipe 8 months ago:
I don’t use Firefox on iOS mobile devices. All browsers are just Safari with a different skin. Safari does all the ad block and anti-track. Sorry, if you were asking me about Firefox extensions.
- Comment on I just want to view the recipe 8 months ago:
Download Adblock / Adblock Plus / Adgaurd app. Follow the instructions in the app to add the Extension for Safari.
For system-wide ad block in apps, use something like NextDNS. This blocks the app banners.
- Comment on I just want to view the recipe 8 months ago:
You can block all these ads just with Safari or Firefox without uBlock Origin. I haven’t seen an ad on my iPhone in like a decade.
- Comment on I just want to view the recipe 8 months ago:
I use an iPhone and don’t see any ads and block trackers / popups. Lots of ways to block them.
- Comment on I have unlimited cellular data on my phone but not if I use it as a hotspot. 8 months ago:
I never implied that. Ask the ISP why they have separate hotspot / tablet / watch plans.
- Comment on I have unlimited cellular data on my phone but not if I use it as a hotspot. 8 months ago:
It’s unlimited data for your phone and not for all the devices you can connect to. I agree with you sentiment. Just trying to point what the companies have in their ToS. I will be glad to hotspot to all my devices from my phone and not pay for WiFi.
- Comment on I have unlimited cellular data on my phone but not if I use it as a hotspot. 8 months ago:
It’s to stop people from abusing unlimited data on their cellphone for all their WiFi devices at home. I know a person who did not have WiFi at home and only used their cellphone data. You are using more than a typical cellphone user and also you are cutting them an opportunity to sell you a WiFi plan for your home. It’s annoying, but as I understand it, this is the reason.
