If you like making fun of quiverfull ministries, programming, Eldritch horrors, British humor (humour?), spy thrillers, agitated engineers, vampires that don’t exist, bloodthirsty elves, and a thinly veiled story about anthropomorphic climate change then this is the series for you.

- Comment on Seeking feedback: how should lemm.ee move forward with external images? (related to frequent broken images) 4 weeks ago:
I would do option 3, both as a user and if I were to make my own service. I’d let a dedicated image service do it. I’m not worried about IP leakage and if I am I can use a VPN. If I want to be that concerned about it, I think the responsibility is on me, not on the service unless they promise that level of privacy.
I vote for what gives the best experience for users and makes running the service easier and cost effectivem

Something like that, except it’d be DeLarge and it’s in the system with a space and apparently case-insensitive

Edit/Update: It turns out that my last name has a capitol letter in the middle and they put a space in it. Thank god. I can actually vote this year.

- Comment on How has the digital nomad trend evolved over the years? 1 month ago:
I like the idea they had in Spain of the community having events to incorporate nomads into the community more.
But also I think the important thing hanging over it is how you can experience a place without making it worse for the locals. There’s a two fold thing that I’ve seen while travelling.
One is the more obvious AirBnb scenario, which drives up housing costs. But there’s another.
That other is that even if you do try to be a responsible traveller and stay in more community oriented arrangements, the money you bring in for both housing and expenditures goes to the local capitalist class, which makes them richer and still drives up prices, because they become the ones who can buy things up and increase prices. The general trend is that prices go up more than wages do, so people become poorer.
I’ve been doing this for a while now, and even though I try to be conscientious, I know that even being there and spending money can be both a good and bad thing for the locals.
- Comment on Oxygen 2 months ago:
In Becky Chambers’ Wayfarer series, there is a species who actually breathes methane. The focus though is less on how that actually happens and more on how they navigate as the only species for whom oxygen is toxic. It’s a great series, btw. It’s a not-quite-as-optimistic as star trek future, but still optimistic and with a vast range of species who are all intermingling as learning how to get along.

I think a movie should open with a quote from ChatGPT
“Prepare for a laugh-out-loud adventure! This film delivers more twists than a pretzel factory on a rollercoaster!” - ChatGPT
“Get ready to laugh until your sides hurt! It’s like a comedy buffet—everyone leaves full and slightly confused!” - Also ChatGPT
“It was fine” - Bob
- Comment on If lemmy.world became the biggest in the fediverse with a user base that could rival Reddit. Would it become monetized? 2 months ago:
In a sense, but I doubt there is the same level of tracking. Lemmy doesn’t (as far as I assume) track how long you spend on a page, what you click on, how long you stay, etc. That’s a pretty big difference compared to just what you posted or commented.

We’ve actually had multiple civilizational collapses. Just because humans survived doesn’t mean the knowledge or civilization did.
- Comment on What is the actual point of a bra? 4 months ago:
bras were a cheaper alternative to corsets. and yes, they were popular and not as oppressive as hollywood would have you believe, and they were considered good for back support. Bras didn’t need nearly as much metal or time. And since they were cheaper, they were more common. At least, from things I’ve heard elsewhere.

- Comment on Should I permanently leave Israel? 5 months ago:
How would you plan to change society? That sounds like a big ask of someone.
I totally say someone should leave if they want, I’m currently leaving the US and traveling and am looking for a place to settle that isn’t America.
But remember something: America is funding Israel and helping with Gaza, so I don’t know about choosing America to get away from that. It is a step removed at least?
It’s not cowardly to leave. Also, you can always change your mind or move on if that choice doesn’t work out. I’d leave. But I’m already doing that.
