You don’t have a choice over whether or not you’re fat. If you ask a fat person if they want to be fat, I can guarantee that the vast majority of them will say no.
Believing in flat earth, on the other hand, is a choice. The people in the Flat Earth movement don’t want to leave; in fact, when faced with contradictory evidence, they just dig their heels in.

Did you watch the movie? Because the experiments showed that the earth was round, they decided that there must have been something wrong with the experiments.

The way I remember it is “i.e.” means “In other words” and “e.g.” means “for Example”.
- Comment on Where did the abbreviation "w/" for "with" come from? 1 year ago:
Yeah, “O.K.” came first, “okay” was later. It has a weird history. According to the American Heritage Dictionary:
During the 1830s there was a humoristic fashion in Boston newspapers to reduce a phrase to initials and supply an explanation in parentheses. Sometimes the abbreviations were misspelled to add to the humor. OK was used in March 1839 as an abbreviation for all correct, the joke being that neither the O nor the K was correct. Originally spelled with periods, this term outlived most similar abbreviations owing to its use in President Martin Van Buren’s 1840 campaign for reelection. Because he was born in Kinderhook, New York, Van Buren was nicknamed Old Kinderhook, and the abbreviation proved eminently suitable for political slogans.

It’s actually an initialism for “Oll Korrect”. I’m not kidding.
- Comment on Where did the abbreviation "w/" for "with" come from? 1 year ago:
It isn’t a random 4-letter word. It’s a common preposition. It’s like using “&” or “+” instead of “and”.

This question is basically “Why should I care about other people?”
Sorry to tell you this, but if you have to ask that question, you’re a sociopath.

Those are initialisms, not acronyms.

- Comment on How did people refer to clockwise movement before the invention of the clock? 1 year ago:
Morning, midday, evening and night are arbitrary. Why not just morning and night? Why not morning, mid-midday, midday, evening, mid-evening, and night?
The number of seasons is likewise arbitrary. Some Native American tribes had more than 4 seasons.

Pratchett’s just using real-world (albeit archaic) terms: widdershins and deosil.

I run Garuda, which is an Arch derivative. Never had much of a problem with it. I update it once or twice a week.
One thing it does is take a snapshot of your previous system before updating, so if something from the update breaks your system, you can roll it back.

I got into a reddit fight with someone claiming they never once tried to plug a USB in incorrectly.
How would you know?
They claimed they went through like 7 in 3 years.
Wild guess: they eat a lot of pizza lmao

I think the real test is if you give their deposit back. I’ve never gotten my deposit back without a fight, even after cleaning the apartment top-to-bottom. That’s why I always take photos before leaving.

Because of point 1.a, vegetarians eat animal products, like milk, eggs and honey.
The production of all three involves harm to the animals and is done without their consent.

There is harm from milk and honey, though, which is why vegans are against it.
