You wouldn’t worry so much about what others think of you if you realized how seldom they do.
- Comment on Does the USPS, FedEx and UPS give a crap about weed shipments since Hemp sprayed with th same terpenes and looks the same as weed has been shipped legally for 9 years now? 1 year ago:
Right?! He either didn’t know or kept it quiet.

Why would you mark your weed media mail? Mine shows up as regular first class mail. Never had an issue. It’s legal in most of the US.

It’s totally normal in the US. I get a monthly subscription delivered along with other occasional orders. Former president cheeto signed the 2018 farm bill essentially making it federally legal. A few states have banned it, but most places it’s fine.
- Comment on Is there any way to open a pop can stealthily? 1 year ago:
Wait for a loud part of the movie and then cough while you open it.
- Comment on What is the ratio of women to men at Lemmy? 1 year ago:
I asked a couple of months ago and it was about 60m/40f, and age landed with over half being 30-55.
- Comment on How hard can you concentrate? 1 year ago:
I’ve leaned to put myself to sleep by concentrating really hard on relaxing and blocking out other thoughts. I take 5 breaths focused on 'am i comfortable? - good position, pillow just right, temp ok; then i take 3 breaths focused on relaxing each body part starting with my foot- feeling it sink into the bed, working hard to not let other thoughts creep in. I’ve never made it to my head.
- Comment on Do life insurance rules that deny payment after suicide discriminate against those with mental health issues? If those rules didn't exist would suicide rate increase? 1 year ago:
I didn’t realize there was a time limit on the non-payout. That’s good to know. Friend of a friend just took his life and I’ve been worried about the kids. Hopefully they will be taken care of.

- Comment on If we neutered everybody who scored under 130 IQ, what do you think society would look like in 3 generations? 1 year ago:
We would lose a lot of art and creativity, customer service at every company would be empty, everyone would believe they’re too smart to work basic service jobs so infrastructure would collapse. Lots of high IQers have pretty low motivation, especially for things outside their specific interests, so I think we would have very fast cars and really good recreational drugs. There are some who believe that the increase in autism comes from similarly minded people procreating, so that could be an issue.
- Comment on Do younger people go home earlier now? Or go out less? Is it since COVID? 1 year ago:
I don’t think they’re more weird; just different weird. Every gen has different shit they deal with and react to.
- Comment on I May Have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, What Specialty Doctor Should I Consult With? 1 year ago:
How long have you had the issue? Sometimes people have symptoms but the cause is more than just that area and can be impingement higher up from poor posture, or from repetitive stress, etc. With my insurance it would be cheaper to see my primary, get a referral for PT, and try that for a few weeks before going to an Ortho. Also, remember that surgeons do surgery - it’s how they pay their mortgage.
- Comment on Why don’t we use radiators as heat sinks in the summer and pump cold water through them? 1 year ago:
I worked at a golf course in Florida in college. People would come from much hotter places and start out walking. After 9 holes (or less) they were begging for a cart.

Maybe it could have been stated differently but there is a lot of ‘gaslighting’ and ‘feeling triggered’ that seems to occur. Is there a decreased perseverance or resilience? I think grit is the word they use when they compare US schools to those in Finland.

Depends on where you are and what you want. In Texas, you can get a beer in a small bar for $4-5, especially during happy hour. Hard to find a burger delivered to your table for less than $10. Fries and non-alcoholic beverages have become surprisingly expensive. Fries can easily be $5-7. Restaurants have gone over the top on portions - half pound burger on a giant bun and a bucket of fries for $20. They sell more, charge more, and half of it goes to the trash.

I do usually check the restaurant website first to see if they have their own system or just link to dd, etc. Need to start doing the call in/pick up.

It has really reduced the ‘what do you want for dinner’ arguments.

There’s plenty of fancy nightlife here, but i really love going to a dive bar with a local band! Most of our nearby colleges have drama programs and sometimes we find free late night programs at museums.

If we have a show or something we eat early, or sometimes go to happy hour and eat there. Normally, we come home, talk to the animals, have a drink, and decide what to eat. We have an agreement that if we say NO to 5 restaurants, we’re having for tacos. All of that usually occurs between 6 and 7 with dinner around 8ish.

So so glad i grew up without social media!! My bad decisions would be meme warnings for future generations.

I agree with that. The best thing to come from the early-ending shows is less waiting. Remember the old days of standing for an hour between bands and the headliner started at midnight?

We doordash or order from the restaurant more than going out because of the tip and restaurant alcohol costs.

Hmmm… So if i say that both World Wars occurred in the 1900’s, you would disagree?
- Comment on Do younger people go home earlier now? Or go out less? Is it since COVID? 1 year ago:
I don’t think you deserve the negative reaction you’re getting. I think it just hit a nerve with some people. There does seem to be more depression in younger people and lethargy is a symptom of that.

They can be expensive for big shows, but there’s also alot of great local music; bands that are just happy to have an audience.
