Do you ever strop dull gem blades? Is that a thing?

Yeah, true!
Apart from the bit where you have to take the cardboard off the blade.

Thanks for all of your answers. I ordered the blades just today!
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
Thank you. That’s very kind.
I ordered a pack of 100 just earlier today. Doh!
I figured if I didn’t like this razor, I can probably sell it and the blades on ebay easy enough. But let’s hope I like it :)
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
I see.
And one more question, sorry, how is this kind of razor around the ears? Is it possible with the added bulk?
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
Thanks for sharing this profound wisdom 🤣
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
Are you stropping those blades to make them last longer?
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
Smaller packs are out of stock at the moment.
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
Thanks! For £5 I thought it was worth a shot!
these are great for shaving your dome as long as you keep the head plate (mostly) flat on your skin
What happens if you don’t? Does it nick your skin?

Thanks. Shame the smaller packs are out of stock. I may have to bite the bullet and buy 100.
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
Thanks!
I do wish I could buy fewer than 100 to see if I like it or not.
- Comment on What blades does this razor accept? 5 weeks ago:
I thought it might be a 1912. Glad for confirmation.
I’m having trouble finding those blades in the uk though.

I’ve tried downvoting and upvoting and cancelling the upvote and putting it back. Neither worked.
This is frustrating.
Any news at your end?

Could be something to do with image processing on sdf?
Sometimes it takes multiple attempts to upload a picture, although I’d assumed that was a bug in the client (voyager).
I downvoted my post, waited a minute, the upvoted it. Let’s see if it shows.

Thanks for getting back to me! I hope it can be fixed because it’s a community I mod.
Out of interest, how do you debug such things? Is there a log file you inspect? Is it public?

Thanks! While we are here, my last three posts to !fountainpens@lemmy.world didn’t actually make it to the community.
The first was over a week ago. The last was today.
I’m posting from the sdf instance. Any idea why this could be?
- Comment on Some reflections on the cost of shaving soap. 8 months ago:
I don’t call wet shaving with a DE a hobby, but I’m pretty sure it’s saving me money compared to buying mach 3 blades and cans of shaving foam.
But I do it your grandpa’s way though. I shave my head 2 or 3 times a week. I have one DE shaver. I use the same soap, bowl and brush every time. A blade lasts me 2 or 3 shaves.
I get good results and it feels good. I only spend on shaving supplies maybe twice a year because I bulk buy blades and soap.

I actually prefer 3 piece.

I was thinking this too.
A set of stainless steel cutlery isn’t super expensive for example.

Has anyone tried the edwin jagger 3one6 series of steel razors?
- Comment on Any durable double edged razors at the sub £50 mark? 11 months ago:
I’m starting to think that a brass chromed razor is the way to go. Edwin Jagger DE89 is cheap and replacement heads can be bought cheaply in the UK too.
Maybe later in life, a stainless razor.

It’s hard to find in the UK. Amazon has a razorock GC, but it’s over £100.
- Comment on Any durable double edged razors at the sub £50 mark? 11 months ago:
I don’t see any unplated fatip razors on their site btw.
- Comment on Any durable double edged razors at the sub £50 mark? 11 months ago:
I was looking at EJ. They sell the heads separately, so I could easily replace if I drop.

Thank you for the detailed response.
I don’t care much about tarnishing, so maybe brass is the way to go!
