How about the motherboard dying before the oven does

- Comment on Forums Are Still Alive, Active, And A Treasure Trove Of Information [Aftermath] 2 months ago:
I used to love forums back in the day, but I must say I’ve really gotten over the format of the medium. It promotes email-like long form responses with space used up with avatar images, handles and signature blocks. Nested replies become a nightmare steer several layer’s and you’re cooked on mobile.
Would love a Lemmy-like plugin to parse vBulletin forums. Endless scroll for topics, minimal non-content fluff, easy and quick replies. (The irony of this reply isn’t lost on me. Most of my replies are short, promise!)

Isn’t it fortunate that we have robust user-centred privacy frameworks to protect people from corporate overreach. 🙃

- Comment on Hacker Shows How to Get Free Laundry For Life 4 months ago:
If you have the room, you can often buy these second hand for a bargain from colleges etc. They’re built like tanks and you can wash almost anything inside them. When they do break, laundry operators try to DIY so there are videos everywhere on how to do repairs.

To me, this makes no sense. Endeavours like this make a shopping district far more attractive for people to visit and they’ll likely spend money in other businesses. So it benefits everyone.
But I find it difficult to believe a shopper will skip visiting a place because they can’t get a park.
(And somehow they manage to tell the shop that they didn’t visit? Either shops are lying or the customer visited eventually, so what’s the issue?)

- Comment on Melbourne is about to have an unusually warm winter, with possibly the highest temperatures on record 6 months ago:
On the plus side, Melburnians will hopefully be able to save a little bit of extra cash on their heating bills and help reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions by using less heating. To find out more about the Australian weather climate, go to the Bureau of Meteorology website.
Small mercies, indeed.

It’s disappointing, but how many people will be genuinely disadvantaged by this? It’s not like 2004 where streaming and catch up services weren’t a thing.
