- Comment on Victoria to raise age of criminal responsibility to 12 with no exceptions 5 months ago:
Sounds like a good move.
Anyone who may be harmful to others has an exception, so there’s no risk cops won’t say try to stop a kid with a knife trying to murder others.
And any of the children are still going to get their details taken down, it’s not like they’ll escape this ever catching up with them just because they don’t get locked up on the day.
This way a lot of it can ideally be chased up by more appropriate social workers, and with proper training compared to cops on the street.

That literally tells the story of a people’s losing their livelihood due to capitalist usage of technology, and targeting the technology instead of the systemic issue:

If capitalism is shit you attack capitalism not a technology.
All the misplaced rage and wasted effort.

Good thing about this is it’s self selecting, all the luddites who refuse to use AI will find themselves at a disadvantage just the same as refusing to use a computer isn’t doing anyone any favours.

Any multimodal llm could do this in a heart beat locally.
And OpenAI has made their shit freely available to run locally, it’s like the worst company to use as an example.

- Comment on Why the slow decay of children’s handwriting skills spells trouble 7 months ago:
How much handwriting do you expect children to be doing at home? If parents are enabling their children to do arts and crafts etc, they’re not have going to been getting them to do writing either.
Also the ECE stuff isn’t about not learning it, it’s about teaching methodology. Going from a top-down teacher knows best approach to one that focuses on fostering children’s innate desire to learn. It’s less rote and more autonomy based teaching.
- Comment on Why the slow decay of children’s handwriting skills spells trouble 7 months ago:
At least in early years education I know they’re being taught them.
As for primary aged children, we should be directing our energy into ensuring they have a wide range of opportunities to do so instead of bemoaning the lost importance of written writing.
But from what I understand, primary is trialling ECE play based learning ideas so I don’t see why they would be doing less of it?

Good.
Hand writing is lame and causes pain for long periods.
- Comment on Why the slow decay of children’s handwriting skills spells trouble 7 months ago:
So we teach them other methods.
Fine motor skills can be taught through almost anything, it doesn’t have to be writing.

We’re just that cool!
Really tho? I’d guess because of the dynamics of Australia, whereas else where people are more spread out we all live largely in 2-5 cities.
Melbourne is over 5 million people and the largest city in Australia. We can all gather and talk about the same place and things.
We also speak English so others internationally can engage more easily with our community.

Okay so I need 3 cards, 2 of which I have as digital copies and these documents must all be certified.
How do I get them to certify the digital copy of my cards? Does someone have to stamp my phone screen and I take a photo of my phone? This whole process is so ridiculously complex when I can login to my MyGov or Services Vic and interact with all sorts of services without hassle.

The idea of the state letting public housing become private is revolting.
It’s about time we kicked developers to the curb, they’re a plague on this country.
