- Comment on Microsoft to stop forcing Windows 11 users into Edge in EU countries 1 year ago:
OpenSuse has YAST and KDE plasma does a good job of gui configuration for itself it’s just that such options literally do not exist. The closest I could get was using plasma and a script that would update other panels to match the main one which is really janky. Gnome with dash to panel did a bit better with mirroring, but it started to wrap icons way way to early, and it didn’t seem changeable as it was an issue with how it works fundamentally.

Everything below the gui and all the ads in the gui sucks, but man I can’t get over how much I love the winui 3 look (libadwaita is close but the color stuff windows 11 does is just so nice) and the windows taskbar. Nothing is quite like it. If a Linux distribution offered proper mirrored taskbars on all screens I would absolutely and Wayland as well as a competent app launcher without 10 hours of configuration I would use it. I would even look past it not looking so good compared to winUI 3, but nothing offers any of that. Closest I have been able to come to replicating it was gnome with dash to panel, but even then I couldn’t get it to work quite right.
Please alert me if this has become possible.

That would be good if the government wasn’t lying to you. It is in fact none of those things causing climate change, and it is exclusively farting by middle and high school boys. If we get rid of them the world would be a greener place #endchildren2023

I was reading this and I was like damn, I’m perfect for a startup until I got to the last paragraph where it said to be lazy and I realized I am just lazy and dumb. I will be making a startup.

I can second Mlem, it’s open source and great! Had a bit of a rocky start with missing media features and bugs but the last few update have ironed out all my issues with it to the point where I dont even have to think about it and no longer am switching apps to get features I feel are missing.

The US is where the internet began and has a lot of nukes so it’s ok.
But in all seriousness the US needs to stop too. they will still have a lot of power as they control so many major global internet companies. Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, etc are all massive across the globe, potentially all in the top 5 biggest companies in the world (haven’t done my research on this front). And the US is and should absolutely be allowed to govern its companies, it’s just that that spills over to the internet since they control so much of it. All of their explicit internet management laws etc need to go though.

It’s cheaper and easier to produce more high quality articles if you don’t have to worry about journalists getting burnt out or overworked. This also opens the door for writing the same article in many different languages with analogies and the like tailored for different cultures based on language or even location, as well as even writing it in real time with the specific person in mind so it can be more interesting to them. On top of this it means that you can get stories quicker than everyone else with the same quality as AI is much faster than a human.
- Comment on Faux news 1 year ago:
It absolutely will be used to do that, but people can choose where they get their news, so if you put out such a news source people will go to you instead of those sites. This is the good part capitalism.
- Comment on Faux news 1 year ago:
This sort of thing is why I’m so excited for AI journalism, yes it costs jobs but the quality improvement will be drastic as they won’t get burnt out, can “understand” every topic, and can even produce in multiple languages accurately. We won’t have to worry about this anymore as people won’t have to click on one of say 100 articles written to get people to read when they can choose 1 that is actually interesting of 1000.

Governance of the internet is not something individual nations should be able to do. It’s international and their restrictions would the. Be applied to companies who don’t operate in their country and eventually may conflict with laws in other countries forcing people to choose between countries they don’t care about wrapping people and companies who are just trying to provide a service into political wars. It’s just not good for anyone. Let NATO do it or only limit your own country’s companies/datacenters.

Going there was purely political. There is nothing there and no good reason to go back once it fell out of public favor. On top of that, they didn’t keep good records as to how to make the rockets, so we don’t have the ability to just remake the rockets we used back then and would instead need to reinvest into making new ones. It’s obscenely expensive with no discernible benefits.

Wildfires are actually an important part of a forests life cycle, and they have always been around. They kill off massive swaths of old forest allowing new forest to grow, and diversifying the environment. They have been around since the forests have been, and there is a reason why they are not cited as one of the many things that is so bad for the environment. It is because they are necessary. The native Americans used to do controlled burns which would allow us to coexist with the forest fires without damaging either life form. We Americans, however, killed the vast majority of them so we could take this land. This is why it has gotten so out of hand today.

Yeah my bad, you’re absolutely right. Everything I have said in this topic was out of my ass.
- Comment on How is former president of the US Donald Trump still free when a lot of the accomplices in things he has been indicted for are already in jail and or prison except him? 1 year ago:
Absolutely. You can estimate the number of true followers he has by looking at how many people use truth social (it’s still a thing) in comparison to pre-musk twitter. It’s a vocal minority. The only reason trump was able to get where he did was by getting the electoral college to believe he was the lesser evil (not gonna get into voter fraud) (and being really, really rich). They have him killed in such a way that it seems like it wasn’t them and he is still viewed as a martyr by few, but not all. Even if they truly believe that he was what they said he was, it won’t matter because no one rich enough exists that would want to replace him. They would be okay to do that.

If it was really that bad the cia would have him killed. It’s just because he had a good team of lawyers to make sure that when he did anything he did it was either defendable or on someone else so it’s hard to get him.
