someone should make an alternate history tv show where the ship made it. bonus if it’s of a parody kind.
- Comment on Movies that “go from 0-100” in the last 15 or so minutes? 8 months ago:
not a movie but a show - Pantheon. It has 2 seasons, 16 eps total. But the last 2 eps cranked the intensity and scale up to 1000.

- Comment on Is this an error in the application form or is it a violation of EEO laws? 11 months ago:
IANAL and I have never had this experience. But intuitively, maybe send them an email/complaint asking about it, eg via their tech support or privacy offices, and referencing the relevant laws. If you need to fill this out quickly, try calling them instead. Give it a few weeks (if via email), then maybe contact relevant offices. If you live in certain states in CA, you may try to get this elevated.

- Comment on Can we please unpin the proprietary off-site/off-network promotion of discord 1 year ago:
true, it’s more about the service provider that users trust. For example, some might be less comfortable with creating Discord acc, which sometimes requires a phone number to be associated. I’d also venture a guess that some users may not be comfortable with Discord logging their IP address or certain metadata captured when they log in to their Discord acc.

Damn that’s a shame but I remember reading something similar about time delays with bridges. While I agree that we should try to stay away from discord, I still believe bridges, if working properly, can at least be a compromise. Maybe some folks over at discord could switch over due to the interactions of such bridges.
- Comment on Can we please unpin the proprietary off-site/off-network promotion of discord 1 year ago:
I have never hosted a bridge before so I may get things wrong. Please correct me where I do.
I assume this channel may be public, so any privacy concern needs to take that into account.
In terms of implementation, I was thinking that there would be 1 channel hosted on discord and 1 room on matrix being bridged together.
The benefit is that users of matrix and users of discord can participate in the same conversation without having to create an account on the other service. That way, matrix users don’t have to create a discord account or download discord app, which would be a good outcome in terms of privacy.

I wonder whether matrix and/or matrix bridge has been mentioned before. Maybe discord + matrix bridge is a good enough compromise for reachability.

I can’t for the life of mine figure out how to do spoiler tags on Lemmy, so I’ll speak in code lol. Did you mean the decision associated with him dropping the thing? If so, I admit I was a tad surprised, but I kinda see why, especially with how the season has shaped his relationships. Plus, we got to see that awesome fight.
- Comment on Anyone here watched Warrior S3 finale? 1 year ago:
yes definitely. It’s based on Bruce Lee’s ideas btw so if you’re into fight choreography, it’s awesome. Even if you’re not, the story about the Chinese immigrants is really well done. I’m not usually into period drama but this has become one of my favorite shows.
- Comment on Anyone here watched Warrior S3 finale? 1 year ago:
hope you can watch it soon. It’s still very good and beautifully done, from writing to fighting!

- Comment on How much did photography "stole" painter jobs ? 1 year ago:
I’m just adding on to this.
Scale here comes in multiple layers, including the capacity/speed at which these technologies can be deployed, as well as the breadth of domains/fields/applications they touch upon, not to mention the unintended consequences when at scale. It’s not only they are much faster, cheaper, but they come almost all at once and have the potential to affect so many fields. Heck, “GP” means general purpose in GPT. Plus the effects of scale can be extremely unpredictable that we should not underestimate (disinformation campaigns now come much cheaper and easier, trust erodes even further).
I don’t know much about history so please correct me, but photography “replacing” painting may be quite specific, that painters could probably have adapted or switched to another professions. I think one commenter stated that the transition was “smoother”. In the case of these generative techs, this affects the livelihood of a whole bunch more of people (possibly both in absolute and per-capita number) that will need to grapple with what they’re going to do with their life, and have to do it fast.
One branch of the arguments I’ve been seeing is about capability comparison, sometimes even anthropomorphizing tech/companies. While I find that interesting and valuable intellectually, I personally think the conversations need to be more about the labor aspects.
Learning takes time and people need to eat. In the name of progress, society sometimes forgets or brushes over the “casualties” it leaves behind. I think many would benefit from this tech, but let’s hope they have a meal on their table doing so.
We don’t want a dystopian where they use these techs to generate the illusions of enjoying a feast over a big hotpot, while in reality it’s just a can of tomato soup for a family of 5.
- Comment on 2FA Setup without Google 1 year ago:
expanding on the other commenter’s response, inspect the 2FA link, you should be able to see the secret/seed token string, and possibly also which algorithm it is. In your 2FA app, choose the option to enter manually. Remember to verify. Sometimes it might not work because you might also need to fiddle around with the other parameters/configurations when entering in manually.
