- Comment on Some people are really good at concentrating their attention. (when writing software, playing games, reading etc). It's a superpower. What are other attention superpowers? 1 year ago:
Sometimes, breaking the Alltag (everyday life) can lead to what I call “spark of inspiration”. It’s hard to describe, but it’s when you suddenly think diffrently about things, come up with especially new and interesting, maybe also stupid new ideas.

I already love it. It’s a passion.

I’m currently making my bachelor in Cybersecurity. Can confirm.

To be honest: the deeper you go into the hole, the more things you discover that can be used to identify you. At some point you need to become a Cybersecurity expert or cut your internet connection.
- Comment on What does .: come from / what does it mean? 1 year ago:
Good to know. I’m not a native English speaker. I was going for the equivalent of the German “z.B.” - “zum Beispiel”.
- Comment on What does .: come from / what does it mean? 1 year ago:
Normally, it’s just abbreviation with a double colon afterwards.
Instead of
In example:

But that’s a different use case. It’s math, not everyday written language.
- Comment on Military Time vs 24hr? 1 year ago:
If we just used UTC people on Europe could sleep from 23:00 to 7:00, people from Japan could sleep from 15:00 to 22:00 and so on. There would be no need to “localize” time.
- Comment on Military Time vs 24hr? 1 year ago:
Good comment. Thanks!
Isn’t the second defined by light traveling a specific distance in vacuum?
To add to that, I wish we all just used UTC. Time zones are useless, we could all just adjust to the universal time in local schedules.
Also: english could be renamed to common and it would make sense.

What?
- Comment on Military Time vs 24hr? 1 year ago:
Time is not metric

As far as I know the Japanese use it aswell. I learned 午後 and 午前 as vocab at least. (Am and pm)

As a German, our car companies are still shady. One word: Abgasskandal

Megameters are sometimes used, that’s not true.

I can really recommend Wanikani, mainly focused on learning kanji.
For grammar: the Genki books and online explanations like tokini Andi.
Everything else is Anki.
Yes this is a lot. I’m currently doing wanikani only because of time issues, but that’s what I found pretty effective for me. じゃね!
- Comment on MS to update Windows every 3 years 1 year ago:
You’re toxic. Windows is trash, but treating others bad means you’re a bad person, regardless of which OS they use. Why do I even need to say this?
- Comment on Is Windows 11 decent yet? 1 year ago:
It’s about what software you install. Big commercial projects are ok, and anything that offers an MSI installer works too. But it gets really weird once you want to install something that does not offer a dedicated installer.
Instead of every program needing their own installer, there should be a central installer that can install most software.
On my Linux machines, installing things is a matter of a single command. The program downloads, installs, integrates the software of my choosing without me having to search the web for some installer (that could also be malware). If the thing I want only offers an executable, that works too, as I just put it in
/use/local/bin
.Another thing is usage in the terminal. On windows, pretty much every program has its own folder. That sucks, because the terminal gets a list of executables depending on the
PATH
variable. That means I end up manually adding A LOT of folders to the PATH. - Comment on Is Windows 11 decent yet? 1 year ago:
We browsing is a bad example. We browsing just works on every OS. Games have gotten better of course, but it’s still not at the real it just works level.
- Comment on Is Windows 11 decent yet? 1 year ago:
For me, the windows shenanigans start at installing new things.
- Comment on Is Windows 11 decent yet? 1 year ago:
I agreed with the guy you answered, then I read your comment and I must admit that you’re right.
I need to use windows at work and hate it every couple minutes, but it’s simply true that I have to tinker around a lot with my Linux machines. I have to tinker more with my windows machine, but that’s because I really dislike the windows way and want to do things like I do on my Linux systems.
I am still committed to the idea that Gnu/Linux is a vastly superior system compared to windows, especially so for devs, but it isn’t always easy.
The viewpoint of just “using” a PC is something I’ve mostly lost as it seems.
Is windows really “easier” for non technical people? Or are they just used to it and switching would be too much effort?

They also took in source code covered by the GPL. The issue is still on going.
- Comment on The other day I heard a friend talking about how "the moon's gravity affects our internal organs." This sounds like bull, but is it? And if so, how would I correct their misinformation? 1 year ago:
Would that logic not extend to all mass in the universe, regardless of observability?
- Comment on Is there an open-source/not corporate-owned alternative for Google Docs? 1 year ago:
True, but it does not run as a document server, so you can’t Selfhost it and connect it with you next loud instance to gain a cloud based office application.
That’s as far as I know, would be cool if that was possible.
- Comment on How do you find relevant technical information online? 1 year ago:
When doing technical things, I find the best source to always be the provided documentation. For example, when using an external crate in Rust, docs.rs or when coding a Django Webapp the official Django documentation.
When starting out, these often contain examples or guides/tutorials.
When that does not help, it goes back to putting relevant keywords into the search engine and hoping for the best.
