- Comment on We are up an running on a new host! 1 week ago:
yeah, there was some database indexing issues, so we had to reindex it, plus the server needs to catch up on 3~4 days of fediverse activity. Hopefully things should even out. I’m not noticing too much slowness myself, though.

- Comment on Beginning probably tomorrow (12/2/2025) we will be migrating our image hosting to object storage 3 weeks ago:
Just an update: after a few hiccups and a late start, its been chugging along; It’s around 1/3rd of the way done, currently. Didn’t get started until late yesterday, and the process died a few times, but its been running just fine most of today. If i had to guesstimate, it’s probably gotten a good ~12-14 hours of run time to get to this point

- Comment on An FYI - our host is going out of business 1 month ago:
Hopefully it shouldn’t be a big deal. I just need to find a new hosting service, and the migration should be easy. I have some time to figure it out, so I’m not too worried, just gotta find the right service.

- Comment on Anon is a game dev 5 months ago:
Yeah, but its still using rebuilt HD assets which make it look way better than the original game its based off of.
- Comment on Anon is a game dev 5 months ago:
That’s the HD remaster that came out like 10 years ago. They most certainly did not make that on windows 98.

yeah, the pict-rs service needed to be restarted it looks like. That just happened a few moments ago, and i think things are looking good from my side.
at the end of the day, the issue is the pict-rs service (which is separate from lemmy) isnt…the greatest.
- Comment on Issues uploading/loading images 8 months ago:
i did a little testing after i noticed that local communities had the missing image placeholder; It looks like i was unable to upload any images, so i opened a ticket with the host; I would presume the pict-rs service is having issues again.
- Comment on Issues uploading/loading images 8 months ago:
I’m not seeing any issues…Can you try clearing your browser cache, or maybe open in an incognito tab?
What problems are you seeing? the same missing image thumbnail?
- Comment on Issues uploading/loading images 8 months ago:
is it? it currently looks fine to me. maybe it was just a blip? are you still seeing issues?
- Comment on Issues uploading/loading images 9 months ago:
Yeah, maybe there were some federation issues or something with a particular instance or two. I think Lemmy reaches out on demand to cache the thumbnail the first time it’s requested, but posts get federated over independently.
So if no one has viewed a post in the UI that’s been federated over, and the instance and ours developed communication issues between then, it’s possible that it fails to grab the thumbnail when someone is browsing in the UI
- Comment on Issues uploading/loading images 9 months ago:
I’m not seeing that, I appear to see thumbnails and previews. Is this still happening for you? It could be having issues with specific instances if there’s federation issues
- Comment on Issues uploading/loading images 10 months ago:
yeah, i think that’s actually a setting on the lemmy side, you can restrict the size of uploads to prevent abuse and such. We’re using whatever the default is, i’ve never changed it.

- Comment on Traveller / Cepheus Engine? 11 months ago:
Might be worth starting in c/RPG with basic questions, and if they end up drumming up a lot of conversation maybe a community is warranted? I know traveller has been around a long time, but I don’t ever hear too much about it so I’d guess the community for it is pretty niche
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
Yeah, I don’t think there’s any way to report communities, just users and messages
- Comment on [deleted] 1 year ago:
Nope, definitely not. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. FYI, the reports came through a little weird (since it’s about a community) and I accidentally hit ban on your account, but I’ve rescinded it (also on mobile so the interface was a bit different)
- Comment on Does alcohol expire? Specifically whiskey? 1 year ago:
You’ve obviously gotten the base level answer, but to add some color here - certain types of food, such as dried pasta, rice, beans, grains, high proof alcohol, vinegars, and basically anything frozen to name a few, never spoil in the sense that they’re unsafe to eat.
Flavor, however, is an entirely different matter. Just ask anyone who has eaten freezer burnt food.
Pretty much any high proof alcohol will fall into this category. And, if it’s unopened, it should retain most of its flavor for a very long time. Once opened, however, it can deteriorate relatively quickly, depending on how it was stored.
- Comment on Steam does the opposite of forcing Arbitration on its users 1 year ago:
yeah, its hard to predict what will happen to it, especially after gabe steps down or dies, but depending on how much of the company is broadly owned by employees vs individuals, it can help to shield it from bad decisions. Unfortunately, we don’t know the exact numbers. If gabe + mike own 51+% then it could potentially lead to overriding employee will in a bad decision for money (either through their actions or through inheritance like you say). Or the employees could just collectively make a bad decision too.
- Comment on Steam does the opposite of forcing Arbitration on its users 1 year ago:
AFAIK, most of valve’s stock is held by employees, not private investors. It’s usually a pretty hard sell of “make the company you work at shittier to make more money”, especially since most of the employees probably know gabe personally (valve has less than 400 employees) and likely approve of his leadership.
