- Comment on When you die, what do you want to be done with you? 2 weeks ago:
I want my nutrients returned to the earth.
That means that green burial, human composting, burial at sea, and aquamation are all options.
I absolutely do not want cremation. It’s an energy intensive process that also renders the deceased’s accumulated nutrients unavailable to other organisms.
This thread also reminds me that I need to revoke the organ donor status from my driver’s license. As much as I like / appreciate the concept, a viable organ donation requires dying in a hospital. I would prefer to pass outdoors in a natural setting that I feel connected to or, at worst, in my own home.

- Comment on Guys, what did you buy during the Steam autumn sale? 3 weeks ago:
I like this game a lot. Played the Colin McRae and Sega Rally games as a kid, this game captures that feeling.
Normally play rally sims in my sim pit, it’s nice to have something very casual to play on Steam Deck
- Comment on Half-Life 2 is currently 100% for its 20th anniversary 5 weeks ago:
In terms of storyline, it doesn’t really matter too much.
I still think you should play through the first one. If you need something that feels less 1998, Black Mesa is a remake of the original Half Life and it is very fun.

- Comment on Are there Cozy shooter games? 2 months ago:
Might be cozy because of the nostalgia more than anything else, but I’ve been cruising through the Turok remasters
- Comment on The Forever Winter - Official Early Access Trailer 2 months ago:
Not even just parents though.
It also punishes people who go on vacation for a week, have a power outage, get engrossed by a different game, suffer any kind of longer term medical issue, etc. There are dozens of reasons someone could stop playing for a while.
It’s really a bullying mechanic that forces players to keep playing the game for fear of losing their stuff. People should be coming back because the gameplay is fun, not because of the threat of lost progress.
The mechanic would be much more appropriate if it were tied to actual time signed in to the game. I was looking forward to this game and was already going to wait for more polish anyways, but as long as this mechanic exists in its current state I’m completely turned off of it.

This new system does not involve logging in to another machine with credentials. You send an invite, they accept.

Just got admitted to the closed beta a few weeks back and have been absolutely loving it :]
This is everything I want from a gamified step counter with none of the things I don’t want!
Looking forward to push notifications to help me remember to queue up the next activity when the last one is complete
- Comment on TitanFall 2 at 3$ 4 months ago:
It’s not, but it is one of the best single player campaigns I have ever played.
My partner and I often play through single player games together in tandem, waiting for one another at each checkpoint.
There is a co-op PvE mode if that’s your speed.
- Comment on How do you get into wild camping, it seems so overwhelming and a lot of information to try and gather? 5 months ago:
Tons of great suggestions already shared, but I’d like to add one I haven’t seen yet.
Wilderness Survival / Bushcraft School
They exist in nearly every corner of the world. There will be tons to learn from instructors and other students alike, since that sort of program tends to attract other outdoor enthusiasts who may already have experience with basic camping and backpacking.
Many will offer overnight programs where you camp out in a safe environment while practicing skills that can save your life if things go really wrong, not to mention that they’re fundamentally rewarding.

For HR, I think you’re good to go the way that it is. Hopefully you have the Director’s Cut - they removed the awful yellow filter that the game originally launched with.
- Comment on Who was in the wrong here? 5 months ago:
Use of pepper spray is typically appropriate in self defense, so in response to a threat of physical violence.
I didn’t see a clear threat of physical violence in the video.
Camera guy probably landed himself an assault charge with that escalation.
- Comment on My laptop hinge just ripped its screws right out. 5 months ago:
I don’t understand why you were downvoted for asking this question. I’ve literally watched techs cause this damage by trying to open the lid with the back cover screws removed.
Most laptops have at least one screw on each side that goes through both the back cover and the lid. If the hinge is normally affixed with 3 screws and you open the lid with one missing, each mount is taking on that extra stress.
Best practice is to reinstall those screws before opening the lid with the back cover removed.

- Comment on U.S. Sues Apple, Accusing It of Maintaining an iPhone Monopoly 8 months ago:
What’s uniquely “proprietary” about Apple’s hardware that distinguishes it from a Dell or Lenovo PC?
Well, for starters, they design their own A_X_ and M_X_ silicon. When they were using Intel x86_64 silicon, the T_X_ security coprocessors were also custom / proprietary.
Consoles are all using custom AMD APUs that are still x86_64 based, so they have more in common with a Dell/Lenovo PC than anything Apple makes. Apple’s entire hardware lineup is about as proprietary as it gets.

- Comment on Recommend a game for me to play with my partner 1 year ago:
My partner was never really into games growing up, and especially had trouble with the spatial aspect and controllers.
The tipping point came when we played Minecraft together and they got to use a keyboard and mouse rather than a controller. Since then, they’ve done tons gaming on their own with hundreds of hours in Stardew Valley and a more recently a deep dive into Fallout 4.
Destiny 2 played a big part in learning shooting mechanics, sense of space, and especially precision platforming.
Thrilled to see that you’ve found and enjoyed It Takes Two because that’s our all-time favorite co-op game and we recommend it to everybody.
Since yours is into puzzling, I want to second the recommendation for the We Were Here series. The first one is free and each is better than the next. It’s an asymmetrical puzzler that requires two computers with each player unable to see the other’s screen. Communication is critical to solve each of the puzzles.
