In our area, this winter has been wild. It’s thawed completely twice. We were at +13C on wednesday and now its back to -5C today. You guys with your consistent weather through the season are fortunate. I’ve seen two days where the daily temperature kept rising until after midnight and didn’t get cold until about 2am. Now what the hell is that?

Then the action of reporting less should be combined with actively dissuading gun owners from mass shootings. So it has a noticeable impact and doesn’t just feel like people sticking their heads in the sand. It’s a human enough response, but USA has hard coded into their legislation and that can’t ever be challenged, apparently.

“English, Scotch, Welch and Irish” always drives me nuts. You can’t even pronounce one of them correctly; how is that honouring your “heritage”?
- Comment on Do you think Google execs keep a secret un-enshittified version of their search engine and LLM? 1 week ago:
I’m not sure it makes sense, but I ❤️ the idea that there’s a functional search engine out there. AI’s best advantage right now is that its the first innovation for searching the web to drop in a LOOOOOONGtime.

Yeah he talks pretty openly about it being a marketing term, and the scientists later criticise the accuracy too.

It’s SO plain looking, I’m surprised too! He usually goes for “tackiest possible approach” so this feels like an oversight, even though its objectively a better outcome.

This 100%. Find a particular aspect of nature you want to dig i to more, and them find an app that will helpyou identify it on the fly. Merlin is amazing, but there are lots of apps out there for all different topics!

Those higher grades seem to all coincide with recent movies. Is society developing a bigger taste for horror as the world destablizes?

- Comment on Why does it seem like every TV series I've ever watched gets cancelled/rushed/incomplete ending, while movies (even those in a film series/trilogy) rarely face the same problem? 11 months ago:
Consider, if you will, the rambling, incoherant Star Wars franchise. That series has been too long for its own good for years. So its possible for movie series to ramble. James Bond, Alien, Avatar. Where movies are based on a book/comic they tend to be richer stories due to the increased volume of detail in the source material.
Personally I prefer a movie though, because of the consistent ability to tell a story with a guaranteed begining/middle/end.

To the best of my understanding, mathematics isn’t referencing a singular object but is used as an encompassing term to refer to content from multiple schools of mathematics e.g. geometry, statistics, calculus, algebra etc. Or in other words, all the subjects covered in math/maths class! 😊
