Hey.
I’m Dan. A 35 year old father of two who doesn’t have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.
I mainly Toot about the following:

- Comment on Teachers want ‘out of touch’ Ofsted replaced, poll shows as NEU conference kicks off 8 months ago:
I don’t for one second doubt that there’s some serious problems with Ofsted and how they conduct their inspections. I do however wonder if those being inspected are in the best position to decide if we need to blow it up.
- Comment on Princess of Wales says she is undergoing cancer treatment - BBC News 8 months ago:
Totally with you. I’d do away with the monarchy in a heartbeat if I could…but I’ll never cheer on someone going through a rough time in this way. Hope he makes a full recovery, same with Princess Katherine.
- Comment on Princess of Wales says she is undergoing cancer treatment - BBC News 8 months ago:
I wonder if they’d even announced it had it not been for the media frenzy over the last month or so. Can’t imagine trying to shield your children from this.

- Comment on Women's state pension: Campaigners urge payouts as Waspi report due - BBC News 8 months ago:
Why would you post an article you have not read?
Mainly because of a lack of time but a deep interest in drumming up a little activity in the community if I’m honest.
My opinion may well be wrong and Ill thought-out, but I’ll stand by posting articles from the beeb if I think they’ve got some relevance to the overall community, which I think this one does.
Thanks for the cordial conversation friend. I’ll quit my whining now.
- Comment on Brexit’s Lasting Damage Is Looking Inescapable 8 months ago:
38% of Scotland voted to Leave. 44% of Northern Ireland voted to Leave. 52% of Wales voted to Leave.
The idea that this is merely a mess of England’s making is a little unfair, because there’s plenty of blame to go around; Why did 44% of people in Northern Ireland think leaving the EU would be a good idea?
They pushed a question on people that they had no real ability to answer, and then forced us to answer that question with what was essentially a Yes/No answer.

- Comment on UK aid to China falls by up to 90% since 2019 but still lacks transparency, watchdog finds 8 months ago:
I’m not one of those ‘stop all aid to foreign countries’ people but…why the hedge are we sending aid to China?
- Comment on Greggs hit by IT issue affecting card payments - BBC News 8 months ago:
Wonder if there’s some third party software that they’re all using that’s having a rough few days, or has been updated and broken something?

- Comment on Youngsters who break new smoking ban face on-the-spot fines in UK 8 months ago:
Seems enforceable.
Maybe we should spend more time going after the shops that sell the cigarettes to the under age youth?
- Comment on tesco and sainsburys hit with technical issues 9 months ago:
Partner went into one of the larger stores today (she works there) and it was absolutely pandemonium. Credit to the staff because from what I understand some customers got very, very upset.
- Comment on More than a fifth of UK adults not looking for work 9 months ago:
But business groups said more needed to be done to get more people into work amid concerns over the UK’s long-term weak economic growth.
Hmmm. Maybe better pay, better conditions and improvements to our work/life balance could do the trick here…nah it’s the workers who are lazy.
- Comment on Benefit claimants not seeking work to face mandatory work placements 1 year ago:
Forgive my ignorance, but didn’t it used to be like this?
When I left school at 16, I remember being put on a program that was run by a third party that ultimately ended with me being paid below minimum wage to work in a charity shop for six months (4 days a week, with one day for reporting to the job center).
Not saying it’s a good system, because it’s not, but I’m absolutely sure they’ve (Labour included) have tried this before.
- Comment on Adam Johnson: Arrest over ice hockey player's death - BBC News 1 year ago:
I’d rather not link it. It’s pretty easy to find if you Google it. I’d recommend having a finger over the pause button. I’ve tried my hardest to avoid seeing anything after the incident.
As for the incident. I’m not convinced it was reckless. I’ve seen so many players completely lose their sh*t just by catching an edge on the ice. Let alone when they’re going in for a hit and loose an edge or catch a rut in the ice.
- Comment on Adam Johnson: Arrest over ice hockey player's death - BBC News 1 year ago:
I’ve seen the incident and whilst it does look a bit unusual I’d be very hesitant to say it looks like intent to injure.
Especially in a sport that makes it so easy for players to legally hurt each other.

- Comment on Does anyone feel like an actual adult? 1 year ago:
No one has any idea what they’re doing.
I’m 35. I’ve got two kids. I make it up as I go along. There’s no plan, no blueprint. There’s just the day to day crap that life has for us all. I wake up, I go to work and my only real aim is to get home to my kids and partner.
- Comment on how do you even use twitter? 1 year ago:
With regards to Mastodon, there’s no algorithm. So you’ll need to be using the hashtag search function to really find the sort of people you’re interested in communicating with.
- Comment on Ex-PM David Cameron appointed foreign secretary in Cabinet reshuffle 1 year ago:
Chief Justice iirc.
It was the role he wanted from a very young age, to the point where he had to be persuaded to become Vice President under Roosevelt because he thought it’d all but end his ambitions to become a Supreme Court Justice.
(Sorry, I’m into US Presidents and I have very few options to talk about them).
- Comment on Ex-PM David Cameron appointed foreign secretary in Cabinet reshuffle 1 year ago:
John Quincy Adams went back into Congress after being President but unless I’m missing someone I don’t believe any US President has ever become a minister after serving.
- Comment on Thousands of babies and toddlers falling sick from damp homes in Britain, NHS doctor warns 1 year ago:
Reported a window in my daughter’s room that had the seal (the black thing that goes between the glass and the plastic) because it’s literally falling out in multiple places.
Absolutely nothing has been done about it. Don’t get me started on the broken radiator in my son’s room. It just doesn’t warm up.
So yeah. They don’t give a shit unless it’s a legal issue for them, and even then they’re just as likely to remove the tenants and find someone more… willing to overlook the issue.
Guess I’ll submit more tickets this morning…
- Comment on BBC licence fee is ‘regressive tax’, broadcaster’s former chair says 1 year ago:
Don’t wanna be that guy but I’ve got two kids, we watch Cbeebies pretty much everyday. It’s add-free, it’s educational and it’s all of a pretty high standard. It’s absolutely invaluable. And I’d imagine the same for CBBC.
Letting people self select what they want would likely mean the end of this.
- Comment on Attention is required for thinking. Advertisers fight for attention. The Buddhists say that attention is the axis of reality. Attention might even be LOVE. But what exactly is attention? 1 year ago:
The thing I’m giving to this post instead of giving to the growing pile of laundry I need to do.

- Comment on What do overnight shift workers do when the clocks change? 1 year ago:
Well firstly, any new staff inevitably ask the ‘do we work an hour more/less’ depending on the circumstance.
Aside from that, not much else changes. One Sunday morning I’d finish at 6 and then six months later I’d have a Sunday where I finished at 8.
Fortunately I never worked Sunday nights, so I never felt like I was losing much after work time.
- Comment on Revealed: plan to brand anyone ‘undermining’ UK as extremist 1 year ago:
Is the plan here to just make the country so utterly shit that Labour have to spend their first stint back in charge undoing everything?
