- Comment on What does deleting a post or comment actually do? 2 days ago:
Hi,
simple answer: Federation.
Federation takes time and if another instance didnt recieved the deletion users can still reply, vote and report it.
- Comment on When will LW be updated to something newer than 0.19.3? 3 days ago:
Hi,
on Fedihosting / LW we focus on stability and we target a version that has at least 2 versions released before we upgrade. We do this to catch all the bugs that gets noticed and patched.
We will discuss this with the team if we see any upgrades possible to pinpoint, but this will take some time as we have some custom patches for some of our cases.
Thanks
- Comment on Lemmy and languages or disappearing posts 3 days ago:
Are you logged in? The languages cant be, because this would be filtered by the backend ( and so it would be equal on all apps/websites ).
Could you send us the affected communities? So that we can check on our side if we can reproduce it.
- Comment on I got a message the other day saying one of the communities I mod has unfinished business and either I or other mods can take care of it. I clicked the link and nothing came up. Is this just a ruse? 1 week ago:
Hi, You mean you got a message from lemmy.world/u/lw_mod_notification or? Then it got resolved by another mod before you got to it.
We are sorry for the confusion but this is technically difficult/impossible to check for that.
- Comment on How do I change the font for the lemmy.world default interface on a browser? 1 week ago:
There is no direct way of changing the font of the lemmy UI directly. But some apps have first of all different fonts and some have the option to change the font. I am not sure what apps has this feature but there should be some.
- Comment on Using a PC can I rearrange the order of my subscribed groups? 1 week ago:
Please submit a feature request in the lemmy github repository. github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues
- Comment on Using a PC can I rearrange the order of my subscribed groups? 1 week ago:
Hi,
you mean subscribed communities or? If so no those are ordered if i am right by Alphabetic order.
Why would you want to reorder your subscriptions list? Lemmy UI doesnt “Priotize” or have any feature depending on the order.
- Comment on Copy-pasting images in Firefox converts jpeg to png. Is this normal or a bug? 1 week ago:
I guess if its only then thats a lemmy “feature”.
- Comment on Copy-pasting images in Firefox converts jpeg to png. Is this normal or a bug? 1 week ago:
Hi,
this is done by pict-rs ( the image hosting middle man that lemmy uses ) it converts every image uploaded to png. Only way of keeping a jpg is using a external image hoster ( like imgur ) and just embeding the link here.
Thanks

In your case yes, this is with a high chance your reason why it is taking a bit longer. As lemmy is hosted in the EU.
- Comment on How are trending communities calculated? 2 weeks ago:
Hi,
as already said by @slazer2au@lemmy.world, the naming is incorrect. Its rather “New Communities” than trending.

To be honest i wont be suprised if they add like a automatic deceased notice like this.
- Comment on Upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5 1 month ago:
Yep those are some of the issues we have upgrading for now. + some performance issues we found on various other instances and we dont know if this will be affecting us even more with our size.
- Comment on Upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5 1 month ago:
Sadly this was told about other “Stable” releases like 0.19.1 or .2 where critical bugs where easily found that either broke federation and other stuff.
Many things doesnt even really affect the user but is a burden on the administrative / hosting side, for example the weirdly and buggy report list ( that is still on 0.19.3 ), it can be expected that we will again wait few releases for any critical bugs reported by the instances using it.
- Comment on Upgrade Lemmy.world to 0.19.5 1 month ago:
Hi,
we will check if an upgrade is doable, but before that we need to check if any Critical Bugs or Performance issues are affecting 0.19.5. Our focus is on Stability.
Thanks
Rooki - Comment on Is it possible to unblock a VPN dedicated IP? 1 month ago:
Hello,
in short no, as we dont want to micro manage a whitelist of allowed VPN ips. Otherwise bad actors could abuse the allowed VPN ips and still post bad stuff.
See: lemmy.world/post/19203819
Thanks Rooki

Not a news article about it but here is a video showing you how it works/what happens www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ_g9YfnjHQ
- Comment on I don't know what this site wants me to allow, but no thanks. 1 month ago:
Never allow “Send notification” permission for “Bot verification purposes”. I heard a new type of fake “Captcha” where you need to execute a script ( with Windows + R and then pressing enter ) that will just execute a script and run malware.
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
Ok still weird that other firefox users ( like me ) doesnt have it even when logging in and out.
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
Ok, i have no other idea on why this could happen. I would recommend for you to watch or even create a issue on github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues and tell what your issue is there. I found a something similar issue here github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2666 the last comment has fixed it on their firefox. But for you its not just firefox its everywhere for you. But you could give it a try.
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
I think i have a another idea. You are on linux and could you check if you are using the flatpack ( or snap ) of firefox / vivaldi? If so, could you try the system package ( if available ) for firefox etc…
Its just a idea from my side, as i am personally a linux user too and browsers and flatpack doesnt work well.
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
No, but better have him check it out of possible issues. But this is in general a lemmyUI bug.
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
Funny enough this was the issue for some people. Strict mode could have effects on cookies. But as he already tested it, it was not the issue.
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
Could you check if you have your Privacy Settings set to LOWER than strict. Did you try on a alternative ui like Alexandrite?
- Comment on Cannot stay logged in on desktop 2 months ago:
Hello,
you shouldnt be logged out if you leave the page.
Here are some ideas:
- Check that you are in Firefox NOT in “strict” privacy mode
- Check addons if they modify anything
- Check for Errors in the Developer Console ( F12 )
- Try to login on an alternate UI ( like a.lemmy.world or p.lemmy.world )
