Good counterargument.

So there’s no pendulum then, what you want exists!
I guess you can stop complaining now. Glad I could help you put two and two together.

Yeah, so, 50 years later, when you can barely remember the lyrics, you drift from said culture unless you can you know, listen and refresh your memory. That is my entire point. Intellectual property rights paywall culture…
If your “culture” and ability to remember your youth is contingent upon songs being available on streaming services that’s not a problem you can blame on publishers.
Without publishers, who do you imagine would be distributing this music in 50 years when the bands in question are broken up, destitute, or dead? What’s the oldest independently published music you have access to right now?

Keep struggling then.
It’s not my responsibility to explain the implications behind your own words. Learn to communicate more effectively.

500 years ago people would get together in the same space and would sing it together. We still have that in pockets, but that isn’t how it is done now.
You relying on the commercial accessibility to music to capture your history and culture is 100% a “you” problem. No one is making you do that.

Oligarchy has nothing to do with you choosing not to share in song with your neighbors. You’re making shitty excuses for your laziness.

You are out of your mind if you think that it is not enabling rampant capitalist exploitation. It has literally given a handful of companies complete power over all of it.
Sounds like your problem is with artists selling their IP to corporations… And frankly with yourself for not creating more, or engaging in communal practice.
Stop blaming some big bad for your own lack of social engagement.

How would you have maintained your memory of that song and culture 500 years ago? What stops you from doing the same thing now?
Any problem you describe is the result of individual choices, not technology or IP law.
If anything, IP law maintains the integrity and cultural significance of creation by not allowing rampant capitalist exploitation…

Look…I’ve been as patient as I can, but either you don’t know how to debate in good faith, or you’re just not intelligent enough for me to bother with.
Expect no further responses from me.

Sure it does. If you truly thought you were right you would disengage…

You didn’t pay for the game.

Again… You don’t work in the industry, you don’t know anyone who works in the industry… You’re just talking out your ass on the internet.
If you want to fight for justice, pick up brick and go fuck up one of your local Nazis…
Whining about video games on the internet doesn’t make you brave, it makes you simple.

No trouble understanding it, you’re just wrong.
No one works in the video game industry to make money, I can fucking promise you that! 😂
If money was the goal, they’d be dentists or lawyers.

Nobody cares bro. AT LEAST Half of those 3,700,000,000 gamers have NEVER owned a piece of physical gaming media in their life…
You’re like some boomer “audiophile” defending vinyl… You’ve lost some important neural plasticity.

Again, if you don’t understand that the passive behavior of “not engaging” is different from active opposing, I don’t know what to do for you. Life must be very difficult if this is how you communicate.
Abstaining from debate on Israel vs Palestine is very different from demonstrating in support of Israel.

“Trust me bro, I googled it!”
And what happens when the developer/publishers licenses (middleware, brands/teams, music, etc) expire?

Because gatekeeping and objecting to artistic expression is inherently morally indefensible.

If you truly thought my opinion was unrealistic, out of line, or paid, you would have moved right past it like the hundreds of true believers here.
You only engaged because it pissed you off that you couldn’t easily dismiss my points in your own head and the cognitive dissonance caused pain as you approached a meaningful thought.
- Comment on Former Valve writer says PlayStation killing physical discs is no conspiracy: "You, the consumer, have made your choice, and the choice is for digital" 2 weeks ago:
The entire goal is to get the consumers’ money.
Then you don’t understand art, and your opinion of its value is moot.
- Comment on Former Valve writer says PlayStation killing physical discs is no conspiracy: "You, the consumer, have made your choice, and the choice is for digital" 2 weeks ago:
No. Steam elects to absorb the lifetime hosting costs and builds a perpetual license into the publishing deal.
All Sony and MS publishing deals are time bound and the developer/publisher is responsible for hosting costs. When the publisher doesn’t want to pay anymore, the title gets taken down.

So now you don’t know what the word “compel” means?
You’re wasting my fucking time kiddo.

I don’t care if people agree with me, I’m not here for consensus and I certainly don’t need to prove anything to you. You’re the one with a chip on your shoulder lashing out emotionally.
I have zero emotional connection to this issue. I don’t need to feel correct, because I have demonstrated the logic and rationalism behind my view. Your only recourse is to name call, and attempt to disregard conflicting perspectives as artificial or paid because you have no objective observation or historical precedent, nor any rational or philosophical underpinning to your position. You’re frustrated because you know your arguments have no merit, and you’re not even particularly effective at articulating your irrational emotional response.
Whether you pull your shit together for a serious intellectual debate, continue your diatribe, or disappear entirely; the industry is still going to do what they want, you are still going to lose, and the entire industry will be better for it.

No, what you describe is not coercion. If you believe otherwise the burden of proof lies with you.

I don’t care if games disappear. If the studio who owns the IP doesn’t want to pay to have it hosted any more that’s ok by me, its their choice. Steam absorbs the cost because they absolutely hose studios on their publishing agreements…

You seem to be having trouble with the definition coercion… I’m not going to explain anything else to you or respond to any more bad faith questions.
Ask direct complete questions, provide a declarative statement of your own thesis, or kick rocks.
