That feels like a privacy issue, maybe related to the topic of whether or not they can force you to unlock your phone? I don't know where the current law is on that.
- Comment on 99% to passing the shopping cart test yet they failed right next to the goal. 9 months ago:
Close enough, it's not blocking a space. Better to be secure, but got to take what wins we can get. It's possible that when that cart was brought there the corral was full and the person retrieving them didn't get the loner. It's like the pictures of the car parked across several spots without the context that there was snowfall and no lines were visible then.

And the new President doesn't necessarily have to pick a VP, it's just expected to fill the vacancy.

Well, it would be pretty suspicious given he's the world's healthiest man. /s
- Comment on Video game actors speak out after union announces AI voice deal 9 months ago:
New creations from existing training data from an actor should have some type of royalties involved. The complication with that is the AI tools are largely a black box and it can be murky on where things come from.
- Comment on It's canon now. And so is a certain image format. 10 months ago:
The funny thing is that even though there are people on both sides dead set they are right, if they hear someone say the opposite pronunciation they still understand what the speaker is referring to. So there's absolutely no context lost, it's just preference, and I have a feeling given the age of the name GIF those preferences are very regional, as the internet had not become a national/international thing yet.

Tolkien fanatics: "Link?"

- Comment on Motivational 10 months ago:
IBM is how he got into the PC infrastructure via licensing. He saw what the execs didn't, that anyone could build hardware but what ran on it controlled the world. And I don't know how true it is, but my understanding is that Gates was so shrewd he bet on getting that agreement before he even had the software in hand. Which if true says even more about the IBM execs who agreed to something sight unseen.

Nothing. Look at this card, it's awesome.
It's always been about distractions.

Competition is no guarantee of improvement of product or service. Often it just ends up in a monopoly where both consumer and workers get burned while they're told they are getting the best.
- Comment on Pharmacy staff from Walgreens, CVS say they’re at a breaking point — here’s what their days look like 11 months ago:
These softwares are purging resumes of perfectly qualified candidates without the human hiring managers ever knowing about it.
I was watching an astronomer's channel the other day and she brought up how automated much of the initial processes are for telescopes now. She said a similar thing, wondering if there is good information in that filtering that is never seen by the humans who view the "sanitized" end product. Any tool is useful as long as you understand its limitations and don't have blind trust. I fear that somehow most people are using AI with a blind trust of the "intelligence" part, not understanding that it's hardly perfect and often times very bad if misused. Or overused for everything.

I always complete that phrase for them when I hear it. "...under those conditions and for that pay."

"Too early" is cliché, but based what she had given us there was so much more she likely would have contributed in the future. Plus the kids losing their mother. That sucks.
- Comment on Vaccines are safe and effective 1 year ago:
That would make vaccination for anything useless if the requirement was to prevent any spread. Reducing spread involves other factors, vaccines just help lessen the effects of getting sick when those fail (or aren't used at all, i.e. American anti-maskers and crowds because economy is priority).

Nothing has a survival rate of 100%. Want people to stop eating or drinking, or taking a shower, or just getting out of bed?
- Comment on Bill Maher Bashes ‘Barbie’ as a “Preachy, Man-Hating Zombie Lie” 1 year ago:
The interesting part of his shows back then wasn't him, but the group that was put together to talk about issues of the time. When he wouldn't butt in with his own thoughts. Terrible host, the better hosts spark conversation and let the guests talk.
- Comment on Bill Maher Bashes ‘Barbie’ as a “Preachy, Man-Hating Zombie Lie” 1 year ago:
The movie posters that I've seen literally say that in two sentences. Even the song says she's a Barbie girl in a Barbie world.

Some cars you won't notice it because the system works well and once it slowly rises up to operating temp it doesn't move again. Some cars you would because they are designed
stupidlydifferent. Like Dodge. I had a mechanic tell me after some research that yes indeed, the cooling fans not kicking on until the needle hit red was by manufacturer's specs. - Comment on I watched DS9 a lot and just noticed these two guys 1 year ago:
I guess they had to do something comparable to the person/people in the observation window for TNG intro. Adding people or activity in a scene is the next jump up from greeble to add realism.
- Comment on Can slow songs be a banger? 1 year ago:
I saw this song mention and also thought of Arcade Fire's Wake Up. Same deal, it's a slow song, but definitely one you move your head or foot to.
