- Comment on Is it just me or does it seem Google is either AI filled or becoming obsolete? Is there an up and comer that can be what Google used to be? Or are we stuck oogling stuff forever? 5 days ago:
Google seems hell-bent on AI; DuckDuckGo lets you easily disable AI search. Try it out.
- Comment on The rich convinced us that taxing them is too complicated but everyday people can be taxed pretty easily 1 week ago:
Wealthy folks (in general) are heavily involved in property and consequently pay considerable property taxes.
It is taxed as such as it is a limited resource.
- Comment on What happened to the protesters or protests in Iran before Trump started his crap with Iran? Would screwing around with the leadership just empower the protesters? 1 week ago:
Iran mass-murdered the last protestors. They are scared of the same result.
- Comment on Do you think defense attorneys who defend cops who unjustly killed people are ‘good’ people? 1 week ago:
Our entire system is built on both the prosecution and defense having a competent lawyer. You get dumb shit like mistrials if the defense attorney is incompetent.

- Comment on What's the deal with AI datacenters using water for cooling? 3 weeks ago:
From the video:
Even under the maximlist goals of AI companies, the projected increase of water use is small compared to what cities and industries already use.
He even mentions how US corn uses 80x more water than worldwide AI use; with 40% of that corn burned as ethanol.
- Comment on What's the deal with AI datacenters using water for cooling? 3 weeks ago:
The water gets used over and over and over in the data center. It’s in a loop. The reporting that data centers consume vast quantities of water completely misunderstand the core concept of a water loop.

- Comment on So... is Iran blocking the Strait thing and then the US is also blocking it? So is it like... double blocked? Is it like "no you can't close the Strait, I'm closing it"? 1 month ago:
Iran is blockading some traffic, notably not their own and those that pay protection.
The US is blockading some traffic, notably Iran’s traffic.

They are upper class Californians. It would be surprising if it wasn’t left.

- Comment on Xbox as a platform is officially dead 2 months ago:
I, for a long time, wanted Microsoft to delete the difference between PC and Console. They are the same hardware, they can run the same software. Valve achieved this with the Steam Deck. I just wonder how Microsoft is going to manage to fuck it up.
I’m confused by the pessimistic reactions, though.
Microsoft has done an amazing job of destroying all good-will. And it’s why I and an increasing share of people stopped using Windows (I still have to suffer with it at work though).
-
Why is there an Xbox app in Windows? It doesn’t help play Steam games.
-
Why are there ads in the start menu?
-
Why are there two control panels? Why do I always have to hunt to find the old one because the new one doesn’t do what is needed?
-
Why are there popup ads in the notification window?
-
Why do I need an online account, or a hidden fucking terminal, just to get the OS going?
-
Why is Copilot fucking everywhere?
-
Why does the OS hoover fuckloads of data and send it to Microsoft?
-
No, but seriously, why are there ads?
These are all questions that are relavent when you ask about why people are pessimistic about Microsoft merging PC and Xbox. All of the above questions apply, but then you get to ask, in addition:
-
How locked down will this be?
-
How many ads will there be?
-
Will multiplayer require monthly payments?

- Comment on Xbox as a platform is officially dead 2 months ago:
They were pretty damn fun. Other games like C&C Generals were a blast as well.
We have since upgraded to beer and boardgames, which still hold their charm. :)
- Comment on Xbox as a platform is officially dead 2 months ago:
And that works on both Linux and Windows now. :)
- Comment on Xbox as a platform is officially dead 2 months ago:
That is actually one of the things that is actually just a Windows detriment. Linux, including the steam deck, can just go to sleep in the middle of the game and bring you right back to where you were when putting it to sleep.
Funnily enough, if this new XBox is Windows based, they are going to lose this ability.

Putting lemmy on the end does suggest to the engine what you want, but you can command it to do what you want.

- Comment on Sony Pulls Back From PlayStation Games on PC 2 months ago:
Uncharted 4 didn’t do too well on PC? Where are the PC versions of Uncharted 1-3
Release of 4 could have pushed a bunch of sales on a 1-3 PC collection as well! Release them at the same time, put the 1-3 collection on a discount and charge full price for 4. People will gobble up both. (I would put 4 on my wish list and buy the 1-3 collection in that situation, but that is still me giving them money for a two-decade-old game.)

I would be interested in the graphs, but with Sports and Nintendo games removed. Nobody has accused them of brown.
Did shooters specifically get more brown? Even with this analysis I’m positive they did.
- Comment on Xbox Co-founder Says Microsoft is Quietly Sunsetting the Platform 2 months ago:
I had to go back and read your post twice because I was getting Xbox One X and Xbox Series X confused with eachother. I even know there is a difference, but holy god are those names bad that it’s still confusing even when you know to look for it.
- Comment on Xbox’s leadership shift proves it: the gamer era is over, AI runs the show now 3 months ago:
I remember being very annoyed, for years, that Microsoft’s flagship gaming franchise, Halo, stopped releasing for their most popular platform: Windows. For years, only Halo and Halo 2 were released for PC, and Halo 2 was almost unplayable due to Microsoft’s massive cockup with Games for Windows Live. It wasn’t until just a few years ago where Microsoft released their most popular franchise for their most popular platform.
I’m still salty about that.
But, it’s fine, I don’t have an xbox or a Windows computer now. And it is almost entirely due to shit decisions by Microsoft that just kept compounding for decades.
- Comment on Do you ever feel guilty for trying to sign up for government assistance programs? 3 months ago:
As long as you are trying your best, don’t feel bad about using them. Just make sure you are doing your best to improve yourself and your income. Assistance programs are not meant to be permanent, they are there to help you get on your feet when you fall down.

- Comment on Legal action over 'unfair' Steam game store prices given go ahead 3 months ago:

Given Epic is gives away games for free. This assertion about Valve is laughable.
- Comment on What is the optimal handle to chain length for a flail? 3 months ago:
I second bottom right as the best pictured, but the chain is still too long. Below is the correct length of chain. Maximum control and damage. Best against armored opponents that one needs to bludgeon.
