- Comment on Americans Are Using PTO to Sleep, Not for Vacation—Report 49 minutes ago:
Nah dog, PTO is Personal Time Off. My time.
Don’t call me. Don’t email me. I might as well be dead to you. I got the slip signed and approved, and you all knew I’d be off - find someone else to deal with your problems.
If they can’t manage without you after all that advanced notice, that’s on them. And if the problem wasn’t actually critical and I can take care of it when I get back, well now it wasn’t so critical to solve right then now was it?

The same is done with commercial property too. Holding out (or more correctly, withholding a property entirely) vacant for X months is more profitable overall as it keeps the supply low for office/light industrial space, driving the same demand to fewer units until ✨ a
newly renovatedunit ✨ is available on the market.Until X months inoccupancy exceeds the profit of Y units generating Z extracted profit each, they come out ahead. And not even ‘we covered the mortgage and local tax’ ahead of break even, but the potential earnings if all were listed and rented.
They literally make more money keeping housing vacant. And that needs to change.

I’ve had decent luck with CL in the past for rentals, but understand that it’s generally: an illegal listing (eg no windows or the like for fire egress), sex traffickers targeting desperate women, or scammers - and you need to be able to jump on the legit leads ASAP.
But yes as a renter, sifting through Craigslist was vastly preferable to paying whatever some private equity firm decided “market rates” are (we are the market, teehee 🤭) for a hovel in a 1+5 complex, or dealing with the myriad of cutouts that paywall listings or communications like the OP.

It’s unbelievably hot when you’re getting blown with enthusiasm though… Slurping away like my dick is the last ice cream cone they had at the store during an August heatwave is sublime, even a mid grade delivery gets upgraded when it’s clearly desired instead of a choice or foreplay obligation.

And not just as a refresher/competency test! It should also be a chance to educate on updates like legislation that get passed, safety information and tips as research improves, and new traffic controls like double diamonds or roundabouts that weren’t in use when people learned to drive in their youth.
But at a minimum you should have to re-validate that you are a competent and safe driver every decade or so, agreed.

X to doubt. The UK threw out due process a long time ago, wave the ‘terrorism’ tag and egregiously Orwellian policies become law:
- Legalized warrantless arrest and imprisonment of suspects without trial or warrant for 28 days
- Permits freezing of a suspects assets without trial
- Allows unlimited imprisonment of foreigners suspected of terrorism without trial
- Military police permitted to operate on UK soil openly, even for non terrorism reasons
- TPIM orders without trial that permits electronic tagging, travel bans, limited house arrest, curfews and constant monitoring.
And all that’s before we even talk about the recent Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act nonsense.

During COVID when nobody able to spray for mosquitoes there was a really cool resurgence - even in the suburbs. Came home from a bicycle ride late one evening, and swear every tree had Christmas lights strung up, they were chilling out and just glimmering in every branch.
I pushed the bike home that night and watched the show in the trees, a lovely coda to the day
