Hm, good point, thanks. Post edited.

Thanks for the mention, but I think I’ll pass on EVE. I know it fits all the criteria I mentioned, but that game is just so massively intimidating to me.

That’s good to know, I’m from Europe too. Will have a look later today!

It is! Finding a game is kind of hit-and-miss nowadays, though.

Oh yeah, Takeshi’s Castle in videogame form looks pretty dope! But as you mentioned, the player count leaves something to be desired. Curiously, Stumble Guys, which seems to be just a blatant rip-off of Fall Guys, seems to be doing better. I wonder what that’s about.

There’s a blast from the past. I played FoF on LAN parties years ago and it was pretty fun! I had no idea it still had servers going, will check it out, thanks! Will check out the Battle Royale scene, too. Embarrassingly, I have yet to try a single one.

- Comment on Did anyone else skip Rayman 1 as a Kid? 1 month ago:
Played it on DOS. However, I never finished it, because the music level was such a bastard. Any kind of traction between Rayman and the ground was gone, so you’re slipping and sliding everywhere, and when you weren’t, you were basically running into spikes. To top it off, the level layout was confusing as hell. Eventually, after many attempts, I got to the boss of the music level. Once. And just like the levels preceding it, the boss was hard to beat, too! In the end, I got frustrated and just bounced off.

That quote caught my eye, too. I can only hope it’s either a mistranslation or clumsy wording, because there’s no way clicking a button labeled “open” requires any kind of skill.

I’m so confused. The article says the news comes from the original Saints Row design director, but then the image is from the failed reboot.

Watched it earlier this week, can confirm. Here’s the link.

Another one of his responses to the same topic: "Code your own engine and show us how it’s done, please”
This is their seventh Borderlands game made in Unreal engine. This isn’t some fledgling indie studio that’s still finding its footing around a game engine. They have 1300 employees, they had 6 years to make this and they have 2K Games’ backing. They have no excuse to release a game in this state, but sure. Let’s blame the customers.
Oh, and I just noticed: the game uses Denuvo, because of course it does.
- Comment on We can't keep making videogame stories for players who aren't paying attention to them 7 months ago:
As a fan of story-driven games, I absolutely am NOT advocating for complete removal of stories in videogames. What I was trying to say is that if Bioware knows that their audience has an attention deficit and is developing the game around this fact, you’re going to get a crap story. And judging by the reviews for Veilguard, that seems to be the case.
If Bioware is dead set on developing games for a crowd that watches twenty-seven thing simultaneously, why develop the story at all?
- Comment on We can't keep making videogame stories for players who aren't paying attention to them 7 months ago:
“What you need to know about your audience here is that they will watch the show, perhaps on their mobile phone, or on a second or third screen while doing something else and talking to their friends, so you need to both show and tell, you need to say much more than you would normally say.”
This is so baffling to me. So you’ve discovered your audience has a limited attention span. I can see that. But for the love of all that is holy, if you know this, why even make a game with a story in the first place? The thing with videogames is that stories can be minimalistic as all hell, or even optional. Just let the gameplay speak for itself and have the story be “defeat the bad guy on the mountain” or something.

It really does. On the other hand, you can spin this as Ubi CEO is literally, just a little illiterate.

I played only a bit of Oolite about 10 years ago and man, this does not look like the same game at all. In a good way, of course! There’s actualy detail on the ships now! Props to the Oolite team!

Matt Turnbull doesn’t have a singular clue what LLMs do and what they should be used for. Except touching up your resume, I think that’s actually a good use for LLMs. However, he also suggested using it as a career coach and even a psychiatrist. That man is a raving lunatic.
- Comment on How Nintendo locked down the Switch 2’s USB-C port and broke third-party docking 8 months ago:
Ah, fair point. Still, I’m not too jazzed about Nintendo making their own USB standard. They may as well call it just SB, because there’s nothing universal about this.

Rookie mistake. The answer to that isn’t to remove the accessory, but to add EVEN MORE accessories so it balances itself out.
- Comment on Reminder to sign the Stop Killing Games petition UK and EU 9 months ago:
Yes, I may have jumped the gun, I apologize. What this initiative is trying to do is important to me and between Pirate Software lying his face off and one of the most prolific gaming publications not getting their facts straight… The amount of misinformation being spread around this topic just hurts my soul.
- Comment on Reminder to sign the Stop Killing Games petition UK and EU 9 months ago:
That is false, PC Gamer screwed up. Here are both pages of the initiative itself:
eci.ec.europa.eu/045/public/#/screen/home
citizens-initiative.europa.eu/…/000007
Deadlines are in the upper right. And as you can see, it does NOT say July 3rd.
- Comment on Reminder to sign the Stop Killing Games petition UK and EU 9 months ago:
They’re not getting half a million signatures in less than a week a man.
31st July is not a less than a week from now, dude…

I don’t know about developing, but he’s certainly involved in a live service-ish game called Rivals of Aether 2 as “Directory of Strategy”, whatever the hell that is. His name is listed in the game’s credits (video). He comes up at around 01:57 mark. Really bums me out too, because I like that game :(
- Comment on Reminder to sign the Stop Killing Games petition UK and EU 9 months ago:
Um, no. Ross Scott, the organizer of this whole thing, said that it will most likely fail. Meaning that there’s still a chance of success, not that he’s completely given up. The deadline for the European Citizens Initiative is 31st July, more than a month from now.
Also, fuck Pirate Software.
