IDK. It was the first single hole fried dough I thought of!

- Comment on Nintendo Lowers Pricepoint For Digital Versions of Switch 2 Games 4 days ago:
I’m not defending Nintendo, game pricing or whatever, but “begs the question why they’ll remain higher”? Really?
You can’t think of any reason why a physical product that has to be manufactured, shipped, unpacked, stocked, and sold by people would cost more than a download?
Game pricing has become obscene and there is no way on God’s great earth I’m dropping $80 on any game, but I think a $10 lower price point makes some sense. I’d love it to be more.

But I mean aren’t our favorite games naturally the ones that have most influenced us and our views on gaming?

I miss it so much. Last time I tried to fire it up again, it just wouldn’t even run under Windows. And I just haven’t ever found something that hits the same.

My Younger days:
- Legend of the Red Dragon
- Police Quest 1
- Anarchy Online
- Bard’s Tale (OG)
- Shadowgate
- Metroid
- Forgotten Worlds
- Super Mario World
- Paper Mario TTYD
- Guitar Hero
- Tony Hawk’s Underground
- Star Wars: KOTOR
More recently:
- Cave Noire
- AC: Odyssey
- Fallout 4
- Cloverpit
- Offline Games (Android)
Mostly tried to stick to a single release per platform for the earlier games. I’m sure I’ve missed some.
Newer games…I know the AC and Fallout titles aren’t most people’s favorites, but I love those worlds. Games are all about comfort for me.

Pixel? That and the call screening have been huge since I moved over this year.

Oh, I agree. The Frenchish version just wasn’t around me growing up.
- Comment on Niche species 2 months ago:
Maybe it’s partly regional, but growing up it was always “nitch”. Like “Tom has really found his (nitch).” It only seems to have been making the transition to “neesh” in the last 10 years or so and it still sounds off to me.

Thank you for memeing with the proper pronunciation of “niche”.

I have (in New England) a few windows that open outward and screens are just mounted inside rather than outside.

I take a hybrid approach. I’ll buy a movie from my local shop and then go sailing the seas for a digital copy. Much…grayer… but close enough.

Yeah, Navidrome does not alter your files by design. I use MP3tag to do all my editing. Operations are a bit slow when the files are on my server, but otherwise I have a decent flow down.
I don’t love Navidrome’s preference for Musicbrainz tags, but I know I can change that.

Decided to pick up Final Fantasy VIII on sale for Xbox last weeiend, no I’m just getting started on that. The difference in character models from VII to VIII is crazy and almost hard to believe that it was the same hardware.
I know I owned this on PS1 at some point, but hell if I remember anything about it other than the frigging gun-sword.

Idiocracy - My 18yo was turned off by the repeated use of F and R slurs even when I tried to explain the movie to her. She left.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes - I had no interest in another reboot, but finally gave it a shot. It was really good. Looking forward to watching the rest.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - Well...I had it on while I was sick this weekend so I more listened to bits as a drifted in and out of sleep. Woke up in time for the finale though, and that shit is still awesome.
- Comment on Open World Games: yay or nay? 10 months ago:
I find the opposite. I love video games, always have, but these days my time is more limited, I might go months without touching them, and I just play to relax. So over the past 10 years or whatever, things like GTAV, Fallout 4, and AC:Odyssey have worked out really well for me. I can pick them up whenever I want and either settle in for some story or just waste time exploring, doing side quests, finding collectibles.
Like what would I rather do in real life? Work toward a single goal day after day, or see what's on top of that mountain over there just because?

Renegades - Keifer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips. It was alright. Highlight was the hilariously reactive flinching of a dead woman as shots were fired.
Empire Strikes Back - I mean...it was May 4th. Watched the 4K80 edition and didn't miss any of the digital edits from later versions.

Bless rainy weekends and work travel weeks.
Dick Tracy - I haven't watched this since it was in theaters. Such a bonkers movie. But just like during the original release, I just wish Beatty wasn't the lead. He's too old and just dull as he'll.
Fubar - not the Schwarzenegger one, but the Canadian one about an aging metal dude getting his nut removed. It was alright. I'll watch the second one.
Empire Strikes Back (Project 4K80) - Yeah, none of the digital additions are missed at all in this one.
The Clone Wars (2008) - I had skipped this because I never got into the original animated Clone Wars shorts. It was good and nice to see Ahsoka's introduction.

Not only do I put my cart away, I will take a few extra seconds to organize a couple carts that have just been pushed in all willy nilly (my grocery store has 2 sizes of cart). Like if I can take 30 seconds out of my life to make some else's day just a little bit easier, I definitely will.

I should get back to Great Circle, but I dug my 3DS out recently and started Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy. My first time playing the series and I'm enjoying it.
Also slowly making my way through the Sega Ages version of Phantasy Star - a game I've been enamored with since the SMS days, but never given a lot of time. The Ages features make it so much more accessible.
