His “The Final Architecture” series also has a lot of non-humanoid aliens in it. Somewhat different in tone than the Children books but also super enjoyable!

The Prador in Neal Asher’s “Polity” books are literally giant spacefaring crabs. And they are not very nice people.

Wow, I guess I assumed that I misunderstood something before launch because it was hard to believe they would make a multiplayer game that needed 3 people but wouldnt work with two but here we are. What a move.

That’s because everyone who has been close enough to see the venom-missile-shooting tenrec hasnt lived to talk about it (there’s a tenrec for every occasion)

I really wanted to like this game, paid for it and everything, but I just couldnt get in to it. I’m an avid fan of fromsoft’s stuff and have done them all several times, but with LoP i never felt like the combat clicked, and I strongly disliked most of the enemy designs. Not that fromsoft always has great enemy design either, but LoP just didnt vibe with me. I’ll have to revisit it some day though

Many species of poison dart frogs derive their toxic compounds from ingesting mites! Even crazier, some molluscs like the Blue Angel sea slug (glaucus atlanticus) can ingest and weaponize the nematocysts from siphonophores like the Portuguese Man O’ War. Nature be crazy

Yep! “Daddy long legs” is a widely applied colloquial term for harvestman, or opiliones. Though I’m sure some spider species are also called that by some people.

I believe that that’s a harvestman actually. It is an arachnid but not a spider. They are suuuper ancient. The giveaway is that there isnt a visually distinguishable division between the prosoma (head region) and opisthosoma (back region) as there is in the spiders and other arachnids like the solifuges.

- Comment on Bees don't have lungs. 1 month ago:
Yeah exactly lol science is full of silly stuff like that but that’s the price of knowledge and of using models to understand things. Same with trees and such, they look alike to us so we call a lot of organisms trees but they are VASTLY different from each other in many cases

In a nutshell: speaking cladistically, there is no such thing as a fish, or alternatively, all tetrapods are fish. You cant define a monophyletic group that includes “fish” that doesnt also include humans (and all other tetrapods eg birds and such). That’s my understanding anyway
