Fun interview, I didn’t realize he was educated as an actual medical doctor.
- Comment on Why do Republicans bring up Kamala's "lies"/shortcomings as a way to claim Trump is better? 1 month ago:
Yeah, I remember almost 20 years ago, an older dude telling me that jet fuel can’t melt steel beams, and giving me a copy of a movie called Zeitgeist on CD-R. That dude would be in his 60’s or late 50’s now.
Before that, people like Art Bell made a living on AM radio late at night with things like the Taos Hum and UFO’s and paranormal stuff.
Like, a lot of early US settlers got sent there because they were batshit crazy and a danger to society. The Puritans were kicked out of England, and then they were kicked out of the Netherlands of all places, how does that even happen, before they ran off to America and did a bunch of crazy shit. We think of the “Salem Witch Trials” with horror and then sing “Land of the Pilgrims’ Pride” without batting an eye, who do you even think the Pilgrims were?
So a bunch of criminals and wackos settled the United States, and when they got too crazy for their village, they just moved west, killed the native men, fucked a bunch of children, and made another crazy village. Pocahantas was like 12. And then if someone got kicked out of that village for being crazy, rinse and repeat until you get shit like Mormonism in Utah and Branch Davidians in Waco Texas and bombing the Olympics.
America is a land of crazy people who have been rewarded for generations for being batshit crazy, and have an ability to not see things clearly in front of their face. This is really nothing new.
- Comment on Star Trek: Section 31 to Premiere January 24 2 months ago:
No, I didn’t want a dark Section 31 series based on the Discovery/Picard “Dark Trek” writing style.
Michelle Yeoh winning the Oscar was an easy cop out. Now she’s in another league in terms of salary, and Paramount can’t afford to pay her for a streaming series. Both sides go their separate ways and the idea is dropped.
Fortunately for us, she loves the character and wanted to do at least one final act. So I guess the compromise is the movie instead of the series.
And that is cause for optimism because it likely means the script was good enough to draw her back, and concise enough that the Section 31 thing won’t be dragged out.
Hey, we’re finally getting a new Trek movie, and it has a big name actress behind it.
- Comment on Star Trek: Section 31 to Premiere January 24 2 months ago:
I was kind of hoping that after 2023, she would decide to not do this. I think Michelle Yeoh is fantastic, generational actress; but I’m highly skeptical of recent Star Trek works. She is by far the biggest name to return to the franchise.
Hopefully, they have an excellent story to match.
- Comment on Happy Star Trek Day! What was your first contact? 3 months ago:
I was too young for most of TNG but stuck with TNG sometime in season 6. I was a kid with single digit age when they destroyed the Enterprise D in the movie and it really messed with me. Then I grew up watching the entirety of DS9 and Voyager, and outgrew it by the end of VOY. Strange New Worlds pulled me back in as an adult.

The theme to Star Trek IV. Underrated.
Also like the Klingon theme.

Best Trek movie.
- Comment on Silver says NBA could soon expand to Europe 4 months ago:
It would be really cool if there were another 15 teams in Europe, with NBA rules.
And each team would have a rival in the Western and Eastern conference that they played home and home with.
And then the Euro champion would do a Christmas matchup with the NBA champion.
- Comment on Gordon Hayward Retires After 14 NBA Seasons: 'It's Been an Incredible Ride' 4 months ago:
Hayward is also one of the greatest players in Butler’s basketball history. He led the Bulldogs to the NCAA national championship game in 2010, narrowly missing a half-court shot as the buzzer expired that would have given Butler a title.
I hate that the AP article also started with this. It was debated to death 15 years ago and the myth needs to die.
That was never a close shot or a narrow miss. It only looks that way on television because you are viewing it in two dimensions from 50 yards out. The NCAA immediately marketed this shot to death because they needed a cinderella David vs Goliath story in a nasty era of basketball that saw the winner score a whole 61 points in a 40 minute game.
A undefended halfcourt shot is statistically, about made about 12% of the time for high percentage NBA players. A half-court heave in a game goes in about 3% of the time; however, this is generally at the end of a quarter (vice game winning shot) where the shooter is undefended. For all intents and purposes, I’m considering NBA statistics here because it’s all we have to go on, and because there were multiple NBA players on the court that game, of whom Hayward was by far the best player.
Hayward launched this thing while running, defended, and time expiring, in a football stadium. It didn’t softly clank off the back of the rim with the chance of falling in; it brutally slammed hard right into the backboard, and then only altered its trajectory as it popped the outside of the front left of the rim by chance.
That shot was never going in. It didn’t even hit the inside of the rim.
This story takes away from an otherwise solid NBA career by Hayward. His best years were on the Jazz; he never recovered after that injury and was likely robbed from a hall of fame career.
- Comment on Paul George says playing for the Clippers instead of the Lakers felt like he was playing for the "B Team." 4 months ago:
Oh cool, feeling is mutual because it felt like we had a B-Team superstar with PG13.

Russell Westbrook draws a charge and lies on the floor, screaming into the camera overhead.
Thanks for being the only consistent player the past 2 seasons. We didn’t get All-Star Brodie but we got a tough as nails grit dude who inspired his teammates and played with more heart than anybody else.
- Comment on Paul George dishes on ‘disrespectful’ year of LAC negotiations 5 months ago:
Sucks that the Clippers couldn’t do a sign and trade. They could have made it work with Brandon Ingram.

End of an era. This probably makes the 76ers contenders.
Wish the Clippers could have worked something out. Their other two stars decided to take pay cuts so PG would return.

And yet they only offered a couple million more per year for Hurley, pretty much the biggest name in coaching right now.
Shit show.
If LAK was serious, Hurley would have gotten a 9 figure contract.

I did not want Boston to win, but that was impressive. This is the most dominant I’ve seen a team from start to finish in several years.
- Comment on THE DALLAS MAVERICKS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION 5 months ago:
Kyrie isn’t going to be Kyrie for much longer. Yeah, you have to run it back, but I think that between Denver, OKC, and Minnesota, this was Dallas’ best chance.
- Comment on Charles Barkley says 2025 will be his last year on TV 6 months ago:
Not surprising; I’m actually surprised he stayed this long. A few years ago he said he was leaving at 60 so this makes sense. He’s had two great, hall of fame careers in the public eye. He still has many decades left for himself.
I wonder if there will be a farewell tour in the various arenas?
- Comment on Is Luka actually a championship winning player (genuine question)? 6 months ago:
If anything, this series is confirmation of Luka as a player with zero help, Jason Kidd as the coach we all remember, and also the end of discussing Kyrie Irving (mid 30s now) as a guy who can lead you to a championship.
- Comment on Dan Hurley has turned down Lakers' offer to be HC 6 months ago:
I am shocked that this didn’t happen. I am also shocked that he didn’t command a 9 figure contract from the Lakers. 7-8 years/100 million with performance kickers. You need someone to build a bridge to the future after LeBron retires. The Clippers locked up Ty Lue for $14 million/year. You have to be willing to pay. The Lakers didn’t even match what UConn was offering? lol.
Earlier last week I could have seen him staying at UConn. But as the weekend played out without a No, I thought it was more and more likely that he was going to take the job. (Also when did college teams start practicing in June?)
I don’t know where the Lakers go from here. It seems they burned the JJ Redick thing when they thought they were getting Hurley.
Also I’ve read it seems that Hurley will stay at UConn until the Knicks are available.

- Comment on NBA Rumors: Lakers Eye UConn's Dan Hurley for 'Massive' HC Contract amid Redick Buzz 6 months ago:
Bob Hurley Sr. turned down a lot of jobs in his day to stay at a smaller school that eventually ran out of money. So there is precedence within the family to stay put.
But college sports in general are falling apart under NIL and new transfer rules. Everybody who can get out is getting out. It’s easier to know who is on an NBA team than a college team these days. There’s just more continuity there, instead of having to rebuild everything from scratch every year.
Also, college is consolidating around B1G and SEC … UConn might soon find itself without the donor base to compete.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Dan left. The NCAA in its current state doesn’t deserve him.
