That’s unfortunate to hear. I doubt anything will compete with Steam with all the things you want. People need to choose to put value where it really matters and have some inconveniences. Pirating certainly won’t get you what you want. Supporting DRM free services (and the games devs) will do more good. You could download your GoG games through the Heroic launcher and it’ll use wine proton (or whatever it’s called). Also Nexus mods has a new mod manager that’ll work on Linux but it’s only in alpha stage currently.

Then let’s support the good companies to make it the rule and not exception. The market won’t change until the consumer tells them what’s important

GOG has no DRM. Once purchased you can download the files and own it. You could even write your games to CDs if you wanted and play like the old days.

So are most services and then at some point do some type of rug pull with BS EULA changes, etc. that change the functionality of what you’re using. This is prevailant in everything now a days. I’d say with Steam the writing is on the walls. They have so much power in the PC gaming market (like with the examples you gave) it’s only a matter of time.
I do see how useful and user friendly those services you mentioned are
- Comment on The PlayStation Network outage proves PC gamers were right to resist its mandatory sign-in requirement 1 week ago:
Read their EULA, you license your “purchase”. You don’t own your games. Steam also injects their own DRM onto the vast majority of games.

I was thinking Steam but Epic, EA, Ubisoft; they’re all riddled with crap

Now let’s go one step further and quit purchasing games with DRM from a particularly large PC gaming service
- Comment on Let's discuss: Like a Dragon / Yakuza 3 weeks ago:
I started playing it for the first time last year and didn’t know really anything about it. I immediately noticed that how people talked didn’t seem respectful and it all seemed over the top comical. I learned that it was an English localization issue. I found the mod Yakuza Restored which makes it in Japanese but fixes the English subtitles to be accurate and the game was very enjoyable to play from that point on. I haven’t beaten it yet but I like how the main character is principle driven, it makes the story quite enjoyable.

2005… Jeez

I just use Djipi’s 3DS Experience + Skilar’s Art Plus Link. V4 just came out and it covers seemingly everything. It also seems more authentic and fun to make a proper desktop icon to launch the game if you haven’t tried that.

Ocarina of Time (Ship of Harkinian). It’s amazing to play at 60fps, texture packs, ans using a thumb stick for free cam

The colorization hack looks really fun to try, thank you.
I enjoy Smash Remix for the N64 Super Smash Bros. It’s a vanilla+ experience

It’s hype for marketing. Our society is based on consumption and over spending. The GPU and CPU manufactures want us to keep spending money to have the latest and greatest.

Just finished Battlefront 2 and am now playing the original Yakuza (Restored patch) for PS2 for the first time.

Well not forever since Steam has DRM. Buy from GoG and download the game DRM free to actually keep it forever. Of course HL2 won’t be there

I’ve been playing retro games recently. Metal Slug X, Hydro Thunder, and trying to get into MGS1. Playing on either PSX or Dreamcast

Been playing Shadow of Mordor again to tie in with Celebrimbor from Rings of Power. However, I found that RoP is terrible but the game is still great.

Been replaying Detroit: Become Human. The first time i tired playing years ago on Windows it would crash all the time. Now that I’m on Linux it runs great. I just beat the game amd have to say that it is an absolute masterpiece. So many options to choose from but at least from what I choose the story held together flawlessly.
- Comment on Zwift Linux Alternative 5 months ago:
Thanks. The Companion app never seemed to work on my sandboxed Google Play profile on GrapheneOS however. I’ve since found Golden Cheetah which is a native Linux program and totally free. Zwift raising their price was the final straw for me to move on and I’m grateful for it.
GC works perfectly on Linux Mint with my Garmin USB ANT+ dongle, Garmin heart rate strap, and retains all the functionality with my Zwift Hub trainer if anyone is curious.

I quite enjoyed the game

I really enjoy the Gulikit King Kong Pro 2 (and would assume the 3 is better) because it all runs on firmware. No software to install, it just works as it should. Also works on Linux without fuss.
On its functionality side it has hall effect triggers and joysticks plus nice buttons.

I have Earthbound on my new Retro DMG but haven’t played it yet. Thanks for referencing the ROM hack, I’ll play that one instead as it seems like a vanilla + experience
