This cleared up my confusion, thanks!
I’m familiar with reveng from a malware and security testing point of view, using tools like IDA, Binja, Ghidra, etc., so I was aware that decompilers are taking the compiled assembly instructions, then recreating Intermediate Language and pseudo-C stuff without debugging info or original function names and stuff, but I was missing the key point of game assets not being distributable.

Hahaha.
It means I’ve hit a nerve and said something so contrary that it actually rattles you.
Funny thing is, you haven’t actually told me how or why I’m wrong—just that I’m cringe.
You have a really inflated sense of your impact on me buddy. I’m not here to tell you you’re right or wrong, I have no opinion on this whole inane debate at all. I play video games for fun, and if other people are having fun playing video games I’m happy for them, I don’t give a single solitary fuck whether they do it on a pc, console, phone, tablet, or by uploading Doom to a cock ring with lcd display and play it by popping their dick with kegels.
I’m just here to tell you that you’re giving off major “meth head arguing with a brick wall in the alley behind 7-11” energy.

Bro this entire post and every reply you’ve made is just next level unhinged, I was giving you a generous benefit of doubt here, because you being a sales rep is about the only way this isn’t insane cringe.

Bro are you a sales rep for this data company and this whole post is just a way to drive people to your product? Because that’s about the only explanation I have for, all t h i s.

Kids are easily entertained by all kinds of arguably crappy things.
Guys traditional games AND mobile games are going the way of the dodo because my 6 month old plays with their fisher price phone more than our phones or tablets. - OP

I mean google says it’s a fashion and style blog, so I don’t think anyone is under the impression this blog site publishes news per se, or is anything more than a gussied up marketing channel.

You should check out The Finals. Free to play, runs on Linux, guns feel and sound mint, dev studio made up of a bunch of former DICE devs. It’s not everyone’s bag of tea though there’s a lot of decision space in the main Cashout mode.

Wait, what? Distributing decompiled code from a proprietary source is completely legal? Is that actually correct?
I was under the impression that the source code is copyrighted, as is the compiled build of the game, and that decompiling the game is a violation of the Terms of Service, which would make distributing it still illegal. I’d love to be wrong about this though.

Much appreciated, in hindsight that makes such more sense, especially because I’ve never heard of this news outlet before in my life.
I even saw san(.)org in the subtitle of this post, thought it said sans given the context of the post, then specifically looked at the outlet name because it was obviously not a SANS blog post and I didn’t recognize the front end UI at all. That’s on me.
- Comment on Dark web’s longest-standing drug market seized in multinational effort 4 weeks ago:
Thank you for that context. I was really confused on why a Trump donor would be running a new DNM, and even more confused as to how a new DNM with a known owner could be operational for more than a few minutes.

- Comment on Adult gamers of Lemmy how do you find time to game without being exhausted of the screen? 3 months ago:
I work on a computer at a desk all day. I’m do penetration testing and red team operations, so I spend a fuck ton of time doing training and development courses and labs which usually just involve typing a bunch of shit into a terminal window, both during work and on my own time (I genuinely enjoy it, it’s not a shitty workplace colonizing my off time situation), and I’ve played games my entire life.
Idk I’ve never had this problem. Screens recharge me, it’s people that drain me. I’d have the same flipped question for product vendors that are always at conferences and stuff, or business insurance sales people, just wondering how they get through all these small talk conversations, sales calls, dinners with clients, etc., without a chance to just sit behind a screen and answer people at whatever pace they need.

My coworker was having difficulty starting and is trying to commit to finding at least one hour a day during the week, and that’s been pretty successful for them. My issue is that I get completely consumed by it. Like ignore my family, ignore food, ignore everything, get off work at 5pm and rip offsec until 1am, rinse, repeat, and I’m like enjoying life and other hobbies and stuff right now lol.
Is there any specific offsec course/cert you’re trying to get going on? I’m super privileged in that my employer pays for the Learn Unlimited, so it’s easier to slack off on the training. When I was self-paying for individual courses it was much easier for me to hold myself accountable because I only had 90 days of lab access, and it was my money on the line.
- Comment on What are You Working on Wednesday 5 months ago:
I’m not currently working on anything projects or anything. I’m slowly getting back in to the OffSec training grind. I took a “short break” while working on my OSED over a year ago and am just now hopping back into it. I’ve already got my OSCP/OSEP/OSWE, so really gunning for this OSED for the OSCE^3. It has been extremely difficult to get back into a routine of doing training every day.

We’re reaching the end of the current season of THE FINALS, so I’ve been grinding for the last seasonal reward skin tier.
I’ve been kind of down on myself for getting sucked in to the seasonal cycle of modern FPS games and letting my single player stuff lay neglected, but the finals is such a phenomenal shooter I can’t help myself. I alternate between wanting more people to play and experience it because of how good it is, to being happy it’s small and not inundated with people. While the community can be a bit toxic, I get matched with a lot more just generally chill people than not, and more people on mic communicating about the game than I can remember in a really long time.
I need to get around to finishing bg3, and cp2077 now that I have a new gpu.
I got paychonauts on a steam sale a few years ago and still need to get around to it also, thanks for the reminder.

If this an in person thing, what are you going to show up to a bar alone and hand your dates friend a fucking phone to chat with all night?
- Comment on Anon takes a driving test 9 months ago:
Maybe it’s not something where they remember they’re right or left handed based on that specific thing, but just that they prefer using the hand on that side.
That sounds weird. You wouldn’t need to understand the concept of left and right to know you have a dominant hand. You wouldn’t just innately know one hand is the dominant one and the other isn’t. If I told my cat that a treat was behind the door on the left he’d be like “wtf is left bruh”, but he almost always bats at shit with his right paw.

- Comment on Swifties wasted no time... 10 months ago:
Two back to back like this? My tin foil hat money is that Loomer is angling to get Trump to divorce Melania then elope with her. Eric Jr knows that his dad will do it and is terrified of getting cut out of the will once Loomer gets her hooks in Trumps dementia riddled ass, so he’s hiring people to kill his dad before the inheritance can get fucked with. I can’t come up with any other reason we’ve had such poor assassination attempts so quickly like this. The bumbling foolishness has Jr fingerprints all over it.

Yes, I had already edited that information in and linked to a lemmy post that itself contained a link to the AP story before you responded. Thanks though I guess?
