Psychology. The sign gets extra attention and also makes one think the people holding the sale might be stupid and not know the value of the items they’re selling.

I remember reading about it last month… Not sure what it will accomplish but it’s easy to participate when one can’t afford anything beyond food, shelter, and transportation despite working 40 hours per week plus mandatory overtime, at more than four times the minimum wage.

- Comment on Valve ban advertising-based business models on Steam, no forced adverts like in mobile games 1 month ago:
I almost wish I hadn’t looked; knew my area had paper mills and wood processing, they’ve been dredging the waterways for PCBs (chlorinated organics) for decades.
I work with electronics and have heard from multiple older gentleman that when they were young, they saw old high-voltage transformers from power poles being replaced which would be leaking off the backs of the trucks until empty or even purposely tipped into the storm drains. Why is healthcare so expensive? 🤔
No apologies for being politics-adjacent in the Gaming community, billionaires aren’t keeping their hands out of anything either. Keep rewarding Valve and the good companies and shitting on the bad ones!

Valve applying a bit of regulation (the right way) and still making piles of money, weird how that works.
I’ve been saying for years that if we want healthy economies, compare to human health. When the factors keeping growth at a controlled rate are disrupted, you end up with cancer.
Rant is related although covering hardware manufacturing rather than software:
Commodore manufactured in the USA and Europe some of the best-selling personal computers ever under lack of regulation. When the market became dominated by IBM-compatibles and Macintoshes, Commodore exited the market and left Superfund sites all over. (Superfund is basically EPA disaster declaration allowing for taxpayer funds release for large-scale cleanup operations.) Privatize the profits and socialize the losses. (lack of regulation led to the wrong way)

Thanks, that second fact is what threw me off! So they could have said either and it should not have been seen as a political statement either way (which is how I saw India being upset over it.)

Same. I’m skeptical of most newer movies given all the rehashes and sequels. The presentation of the aliens had me shaking a little bit!

The other thing I remember was that they for some reason decided to show the location on the map as “Punjab, Pakistan” which is even more generic because it’s a province not a city.
I could see India being upset over that because it’s disputed territory.
- Comment on what if another country staged a coup in the US and deposed trump? 1 month ago:
There were thousands of Xitter accounts echoing and amplifying Trump that were deleted immediately after the election. The propaganda machine is on automatic now.
Same thing happened on a smaller scale with my local conservative school board members boosting themselves with fake Facebook accounts, then deleting them after they were busted. They claimed “we have nothing to hide” and “this is an assault on our free speech rights.” I’m stoking the flames by sending a letter to the local newspaper editor saying that if fake personas have free speech rights, they should also have the right to vote.

- Comment on Is the Nintendo Switch 2 the end of innovative consoles? 1 month ago:
GBA was awesome at the time. Up to that point, all other color portables were jokes that could kill a fresh set of 6 AA batteries in a single play session. Backlight tech was bad; Game Gear had a tiny fluorescent tube! IndiGlo watches were fancy… there was Game Boy Light but only in Japan. I can’t remember why these companies were so slow to go to LED especially since third-party LED “worm lights” were so popular on GBC then GBA. Probably patents?
Nintendo was right to invest in RISC tech like Super FX, leading to GBA’s 32-bit ARM CPU able to run for many many hours on 2 AAs. I felt that only adding L+R buttons to the Game Boy control scheme was a mistake especially when ports and sequels of 16-bit favorites started appearing, but obviously that didn’t hold the console back.
Sega were the innovators putting the mini-screen/portable in their controller but trying to keep the price down made it way too limited, and Nintendo almost took that to next level with the GBA to GameCube link.
