- Comment on Why are doctors so hands off and unhelpful in the USA? 1 month ago:
There is some variation by state but in the US almost all licensed medical professionals are required to participate in continuing education to keep their license.

It’s Roddy Piper from Hell Comes to Frogtown.
- Comment on 15 Best Cheesy '80s Sci-Fi Movies, Ranked 2 months ago:
How can you have a list of 80s cheesy sci-fi with no Troma? The Toxic Avenger, Class of Nuke Em High, Surf Nazis Must Die.
On top of being a list of big budget films these are supposed to be under appreciated? Ghostbusters had a sequel in the 80s, basically continuous TV presence for the past ~40 years, and unreasonably huge merchandiseing. It’s one of the most successful franchises of all time.
- Comment on Could President Biden fully legalize cannabis before he leaves office? 3 months ago:
I doubt he’ll do anything much different before the election. Harris is going to try to run, at least in part, on the current administration’s record so Biden actions will be constrained by the fear of hurting her campaign.

Not really, the difference between left and right seems to mostly be where they want the government’s focus to be. Left wants to primarily regulate business focusing on reducing harm and fair treatment for workers while allowing as much freedom of choice to the individual as possible. Right wants to primarily regulate individual behavior enforcing their religious and/or ethical standards while allowing business as much freedom as possible. This is of course a broad generalization and the entire political landscape in the US has been creeping right for decades.

Mostly us.

We’re not the only ones that can do that. Wolves, dingoes and other wild dogs, and hyenas are also persistence predators. All species of the Homo genus were persistence predators but we’re the only one still around.

I would assume “on the ropes” was a reference to Andre being a wrestler. Don’t think it was meant to be about his death.
- Comment on "And the killer was never caught..." 4 months ago:
The first time I watched a true crime documentary it scared the crap out of me. I was eight, I think, and it was about Jack the Ripper. I watched it in a small dark smokey lounge in the back of a funeral home with some other kids of similar age and then had to run out to the car alone probably around 10:30pm or so.
- Comment on Why English language is sometimes "lazy", sometimes not 4 months ago:
The job application one should be pronounced with a long a as the second e. Despite the last e not being silent the u is still elongated. It’s a recent adoption from French. Even though they are spelled the same the two words are unrelated.
- Comment on Who would win: every human in the world vs. every animal in the world? 4 months ago:
Mosquitoes are the only thing that kills more humans than other humans. In fact, if you look at the top 10 animals that kill humans and add up 2-9s per year totals they’re a bit less than mosquitoes. Also the list is very bug and parasite heavy.
- Comment on Are there any complete foods recipe builders still working? 5 months ago:
Thanks, I downloaded it and am messing with it. It’s missing some nutrient data on a few of the ingredients I am looking for but it’s the best I’ve found so far.

I’ve never been much of a social media user outside of reddit and lemmy and I’ve never had an Instagram account so maybe it’s my lack of familiarity but does that page list some really unimpressive stats? The original post had “more than 3,000 likes in less than three years” and for the second Instagram post it says"Within seven months, the post gained over 4,000 likes." Do Instagram posts continue active participation for years? I felt pretty good the few times I’ve posted something that got thousands of likes but it’s more personal achievement 'than this is going to be bigger than two broken arms".

If the removal reason is that it wasn’t marked NSFW do you restore the post if it is edited to be correctly flagged and the poster asks for it to be restored?

It’s fake. It looks like that so she can bring the same one to every picnic.
- Comment on The Eurobean Mind Cannot Comprehend 6 months ago:
My mind can’t comprehend those walking and biking numbers. The walking is about 70 miles a day. That’s more than double the average distance of a one day ultra marathon done everyday for a month and a half. The biking distance is about 255 miles a day. Roughly 2.5x the average daily distance for the Tour de France. I want to meet the people who can do that.
- Comment on The Eurobean Mind Cannot Comprehend 6 months ago:
It would have been a continent and a whatever Central America was when I was in school but the younguns nowadays tell me that Central America is included in North America now. And most of South America seems to think that North and South America are all one continent. If we went with that we could make a really long transcontinental path.
- Comment on Reddit is taking over Google 6 months ago:
Look for threads that are at least a year old to get better answers. Among the people who left in the most recent exodus was a good portion of reddit’s tech and science people who were giving good answers and mods who were keeping those answers from being drowned out by shit posters and the confidently incorrect.
- Comment on What will happen to large companies once poor people have no more money to use? 6 months ago:
The lyric is “I owe my soul to the company store”. Sold requires a conscious choice, willingly entering into the agreement. Under a company script system children are forced into labor as early as possible to help pay the family debt. In less than a generation teenagers are given the “choice” to go to work or see their families already meager income reduced to cover “their portion” of the family debt.
- Comment on car insurance 6 months ago:
I’m in a similar position, middle aged, clear driving history for about 15 years, car’s an '18. I pay ~$450 every 6 months with Progressive. Paying the whole amount up front gives me a good discount. If you can’t do that size payment at once you can pay with PayPal credit and it should be no interest for 6 months so you can get the discount and still pay monthly.
- Comment on car insurance 6 months ago:
We’re no where near $170 a year but $500 is very high. I haven’t had a ticket or accident in about 15 years, I think insurance companies can only go back 6 years, and I’m paying about $75 per month.
