- Comment on What games did you sleep on for too long? 2 weeks ago:
yea undertale’s graphics are pretty bad lol, in many cases literally on purpose! thankfully deltarune (especially the later chapters) looks much better. but imo, where the game really shines is its characters and battles, they’re really fun!
for the controller, if it’s not a problem you can just play with the keyboard, it works very well.
- Comment on What games did you sleep on for too long? 2 weeks ago:
undertale and deltarune. i kinda always dismissed those games as youtuber fandom shit, if that makes sense… stuff made to appeal to fandoms who love to pull nonsense out of their asses to make the games deeper than they really are. and i’ve heard so many horrors about the utdr fandom, it made me want to steer clear of the games. and i figured, since i already got spoiled a ton of stuff from undertale through cultural osmosis, what would be the point of playing it?
but they still interested me somewhat, since i heard from more people that they were actually really good… and i got spoiled one more thing i didn’t know, and i figured if i want to play these games someday, i have to do it now so my enjoyment of them isn’t ruined more by just existing on the internet
so i did! i played undertale twice in a row (i didn’t do everything needed to get the pacifist ending the first time), and the first 2 chapters of deltarune right after that (only those were released then). and oh my, i’m glad i did because these are some of my favourite games now. tho i still think I would’ve enjoyed undertale so much more if i hadn’t been spoiled a bunch about it…
don’t judge games by their fandoms. things are often popular for a reason, and fans of something often lack the creative capabilities of the original creators (which is not to say that there isn’t good utdr fan content, there is, a ton! but there’s also a lot of crap)
i still dislike the gaster theorists tho

i think it’s a combination of two things:
- these people had an emotional attachment to nintendo and it’s games growing up, or knew someone who did, so thought very highly of it. when faced with the reality that nintendo is just like any other corporation, aka they only care about their profits and nothing else and will act accordingly, the fall from heaven was brutal.
- the main targets of nintendo’s shittiness are its own customers and fans. microsoft may be helping mass murder of people in Palestine, ubisoft is protecting the sexual abuse of their employees by management, rockstar is doing union busting… but gamers are none of these people. gamers are “consumers”, and highly lacking in empathy. so, in their eyes, nothing is worse than being “anti-consumer”. like, ask any gamer if they like ubisoft and, if not, why. they won’t talk about the sexual abuse, or crunch… they’ll talk about bad overpriced games and microtransactions.

microsoft aids israel’s genocide and ubisoft management protected serial sexual abusers…

- Comment on Has there ever been a game whose name was intentionally suffixed with "2" despite no original game? lol 4 weeks ago:
it was a mediocre fighting game for the nes. it’s original title was mike tyson’s intergalactic power punch, but after the aforementioned mike tyson was arrested for sexual assault, it was renamed power punch II despite power punch 1 never existing.
the rumor goes that it was originally pitched to nintendo as a sequel to punch-out, but either because it was kinda crap or because of mike tyson’s arrest, it was rejected. but this is debated.

yea gog can fuck off but the way they do games distribution is how it should be for everyone imo

we need offline, drm-free installers and games that are not tied to the storefront you bought them in
- Comment on End of an era? 1 month ago:
that’s what i hate the most about this. “retro gaming and second hand” works now because everything was physical back then, and could be preserved. what will the people of the future have of us? nothing but memories of what will then be a digital graveyard. most of it unpreserved, even through piracy, because consoles are getting harder and harder to hack and emulate and companies are getting more and more litigious.

what would even be the point of a ps6 really? in terms of graphics i feel like we’ve reached diminishing returns…
it’s just new hardware for the sake of it, to enable games that are even less optimized and look (& most importantly, play) almost identical to games released 10 years ago on hardware with a fraction of the power (and a fraction of the energy consumption…)
- Comment on #StopPayingGames 1 month ago:
that’s because it’s a company that’s mostly liked by people on lemmy (and presumably op), meanwhile those on their post are mostly hated. this post is just a way for people here to feel good about themselves for not buying the games they already didn’t care about by pretending it’s activism, but don’t you dare point out the shitty practices of the companies they like!!!
basically the entire video games industry* is based around the idea that you don’t own your games. this is obviously awful and needs to change, but i’m sorry, “just boycott the bad guys!!” won’t work when the bad guys is everyone, so to boycott them essentially means to stop engaging with gaming entirely. there’s a reason Stop Killing Games didn’t do a boycott, they did a campaign to get laws passed.
* except gog i guess, but they seem to like sending neonazi symbols to people’s inboxes so. pick your poison.

in general, don’t pre-order stuff. wait till it’s out and then judge wether you think it’s worth it.
especially a digital game. pre-ordering a physical product can make sense if you’re afraid it’s gonna be out of stock, that’s not a concern with digital games. please don’t pre-order.

- Comment on Gog Promotional E-Mail Containing Nazi Symbols Goes Out to Subscribers 2 months ago:
to me it’s pretty clear that it was intentional. like ffs, they explicitly chose to send the email with that title everywhere except germany because it’s illegal to have nazi symbolism there. so obviously they knew! they realized what this came across as!
idk if it’s an edgy representative, and now they’re defending that rep or something (or maybe the rep is the one writing the shitty non-apologies)… but yea, i’m downloading all my offline installers and if they don’t have a real apology and commitment to not fucking do this again then my account is gone.
fuck GOG. the ai shit was bad enough, this is fucking unacceptable. i’d rather put up with steam’s drm than give money to neonazis.

jokes aside, this is really cool, and even using vanilla i could see it be possible to use any handheld console as a gamepad for your pc, that would be awesome for wii u/ds/3ds emulation especially!

well yea, but we haven’t been starved on mainline mario content either. we had bowser’s fury in 2020, mario wonder in 2023 (not a 3d game but still mainline), and dk bananza apparently has a lot in common with 3d mario (tho i couldn’t tell myself, i didn’t play it)

- Comment on Switch 2 demand appears to be flagging as Nintendo reportedly lowers production 4 months ago:
it doesn’t, in fact the switch 2 seems to be cheaper in the us than anywhere else (except maybe japan)
msrp is 450$ usd in the us, 630$ cad (458$ usd) in canada, 396£ (530$ usd) in the uk, 700$ aud (487$ usd) in australia, and 470€ (545$ usd) in france
i don’t think the tariffs are having much of an impact, or more likely nintendo is charging everyone to cover them
