Add to that, the human eye only sees up to 500fps in ideal conditions. Why would you pay a bunch of money for extra framea that you physicall can’t see?
Eyes don’t work in fps and the 500fps limit is a myth that is shown to be false in the linked articles. The need for >1000fps is more about how our brains perceive motion and getting as close as possible to eliminating judder.
Also, talking about costs isn’t really relevant when we’re talking about future tech. What is aspirational today will be the norm tomorrow. We’ll get there first with upscalers and mfg and who knows what else is in the pipeline to improve the rendering process.

Tbh, I think we’ve reached a point of diminishing returns on video game graphics. Do we really need games to be any more photorealistic and power hungry than they are now?
Need? No. Want? Absolutely.
There are two interesting articles that have shaped my view on this:
I’m not hung up on who is right about 1000Hz vs 1800Hz, only that >=1000Hz at >=1000fps is the goal. We’re a long way away from that when the best gaming CPU can only manage ~600fps in CS2 at 1080p.
One of the digitalfoundry guys got hands-on time with a prototype monitor at CES and played a game at >500fps and while he couldn’t really convey what it was like, it was clear that the experience is very different than even playing on 360Hz displays.
We’re at least 2-3 hardware generations away from being able to push >1000fps with relatively simple games and much further away for AAA games. I think it’s something worth looking forward to.

We know there’s a growing number of people who use their phone as their primary and only computing device. And the success of the steam deck is proof that a “good enough” experience can attract an audience. It is also likely that Valve is planning for a future where the Steam android app will be capable of installing and playing games locally without the 30% Google tax.
None of that will change the fact that gaming will always push technology forward with the need for faster CPUs and GPUs and that will never be the domain of phones where efficiency is king. There is no reason to worry.

Good job on the headline, made me click. I found the full quote interesting:
Do you think GameNative might in some way redefine the way people think about PC gaming on portable devices?
Utkarsh: Yes, I do, and that’s the reason I’m choosing to work on it! I genuinely feel that in the next year or two, GameNative is going to become a complete replacement for handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, and in the medium-long term make expensive, bulky gaming PCs an anachronism.
This seems overly optimistic and there’s no mention about Valve actively working on fex as a possible precursor to the Deck2 or Deck3 being an arm powered device. Then there’s the problem of heat dissipation in devices that haven’t been designed with that type of sustained usage in mind. Will people buy bulkier phones without water and dust resistance in large enough quantities to be sustainable?
I’ve been excited about PC emulation on my phone and it has been a surprisingly good experience for most non-AAA games (except for the hit on battery life), but it’ll never be able to duplicate the immersion that only becomes possible on a large display with the necessary horsepower to bring the game to life. PC gaming isn’t going anywhere and neither are dedicated handhelds.
- Comment on Jason Schreier says Sony is backing away from putting single player games on PC 2 months ago:
The only way this makes sense is if Sony feels they’ve cornered enough of the market to be able to recoup the enormous costs of AAA development. I don’t see how that’s possible without a huge price increase of the console and games.
- Comment on Donald Trump just shared an AI video to Truth Social depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys 2 months ago:
I’m sure this stunt is his attempt to distract us from something. This guy has to be the best at being the “racist senile old man” I’ve ever seen. I don’t think he plans anything but he plays the media like a fiddle to get attention any time he wants while avoiding all accountability.
I’ve never understood why anyone ever took him seriously and I’ve known people who thought he was intelligent which immediately made me question their judgement on everything.

The gaming benchmarks show you’ll probably be able to play most of the older f2p games at 720p low settings and be =>30fps.

That would be great to see and at a competitive price point.

It’s not necessarily about ARM. Based on their statements, they’re looking for >75% performance increase at similar power levels and cost. That spec doesn’t exist today and going forward, ARM will probably have a better shot at meeting that spec than AMD (depending on continued development of FEX).

This was a surprisingly entertaining video about how GPUs are made. Yeston is the weird kid on the block but I like to see them trying things.

Find a mouse you like the shape of and look at comparable mice that have replaceable switches. Then do a quick check on aliexpress at the prices of those switches/wheels. Things have gotten better with mice.

Maybe. I don’t know how to decide right/wrong for prices given how varied value judgments are. It’s not for me but if I spent $$$ for a 5090, I’d be all over this cable in a heartbeat.

Seems inline with prices for this type of cable. Also, it’s probably only useful for people buying $1000+ gpus.
- Comment on Mastercard release a statement about game stores, payment processors and adult content 9 months ago:
We’ll probably never get the whole story. Itch’s update from yesterday points the finger at stripe, others could still be involved.
- Comment on Mastercard release a statement about game stores, payment processors and adult content 9 months ago:
True. Collective shout targeted visa, mc, paypal and paysafe. I guess it’s possible the game storefronts acted due to concerns of one of them.

MC: It’s not us.
Steam & Itch: It’s the payment processors.
Gee, I wonder who people are going to believe.
- Comment on What's the REAL minimum power supply needed for a RTX 5060 Ti? 9 months ago:

The 50 series cards are pretty efficient and don’t have the transient spikes issue of the 30 series. You can get away with having a lower wattage PSU that is closer to your actual requirement instead of 40-50% headroom that used to be suggested.
- Comment on Linux users: Are we over-reliant on Steam? 9 months ago:
I use Steam only for games purchased from Steam and Heroic for Epic, GOG, etc…
Heroic makes it much easier to manage games. Custom prefixes for each game with winetricks, mangohud checkbox, environment variables and so on. If the interface was better/modern with some sort of tabbed layout, I would use it for my Steam games as well.

Rogers also owns the Leafs and Jays is a Trump fan for what it’s worth.
Now for the relevant bit. During Masai’s last contract negotiation, Rogers made noises about paying him as one of the premium executives in the league. With Larry T, who is a Masai supporter, selling his stake, Masai’s days were numbered.
Masai’s tenure post-championship has been mixed but I’m in the camp that this move will lead to further instability because whoever they bring in will eventually clean house.
- Comment on The Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to the Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Cole Anthony, four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap, sources tell Shams Charania. 10 months ago:
Overpay but I kinda get what the Magic are doing. Outside shooting and playmaking were their biggest needs. This addresses more of the former than the latter. They also don’t sacrifice their defensive identity. They’re probably a top 5 team in the east and will need an upgrade at PG to jump into the top 3 tier.
