Similar, one of my coworkers once got a roll of ‘voice activated’ stickers and put them on all the paper towel dispensers in the bathroom. Apparently the LT made a fool of himself yelling at one later that day and we all got yelled at for it. Totally worth it lol.

From the little I’ve seen about it, the code they were using was basically incredibly old and vulnerable, and the cost and effort required to repair it is a lot.
That’s all based on hearsay though.

At this point it’s a self fulfilling prophecy, no one expects Google products to last so they don’t use them and because no one uses them they don’t last. Which sucks because the products themselves are usually pretty solid.

Lol right? I bounced off ss2 a couple times because it was too scary for younger me. A few years later I got the itch to give it another go, but I had to downgrade my graphics drivers to get it to run on my system so I forced myself to finish it that time lol

I suppose it really depends on figuring out what consciousness really is.
If we’re talking about pure digital information then nothing is actually moved, it’s just copied and written to a new location. From the perspective of the new mind, continuity would be preserved and it would think it had simply changed places. The old mind (if it survives the scanning/transfer process) would still be outside the simulation and see a new copy of itself in there.
On the other hand, if consciousness is some kind of understandable phenomena, with even more sci-fi tech we might be able to simply scoop it out and put it somewhere else. In that case it would be the same person.

The demo had significan graphical problems, allegedly it was an older build of the game so hopefully it works at launch

The absence of evidence isn’t evidence of absence.
But realistically, and specifically OPs scenario, it doesn’t matter because there’s literally nothing you can do about it except try to be better than you were yesterday.

I’m not sure about that, it looks like the kind of game that generates stars, planets, factions, et al. And then simulates them doing things; so as the player, you get to enjoy an interesting new universe with every playthrough and get to have fun influencing the various systems.

It is indeed the alien power augmenter. The upper structure is basically just made up of some circular foundations and mk1 pipe though.

Heck yes, arcanum is one of my favorite RPGs.

This reads like an onion article. Who’s constantly buying new mice? And they’re trying to target consumers who “don’t have both a mouse and keyboard” by trying to sell them a $200 mouse…
I’ve been using the same razer chroma I bought 15 years ago and it’s still perfectly fine.

I’m curious how they came to the figure they used for car ownership, I’ve had 2 cars in my adult life and I paid them both off in ~6 years (I only got the second one because I got into an accident and totaled the first one a month after paying it off )
Am I an out of touch outlier here?
- Comment on What kind of person am I if I decide to stay in a job, even if my supervisors work against me? 6 months ago:
It seems like you really need to decide if the paycheck is worth the drama. You make it sound like you have other options, so if fear of the unknown is the only thing keeping you from jumping ship, I think you should jump.
- Comment on I just read about early humans causing the extinction of megafauna and thought of Monster Hunter 6 months ago:
So up until very recently, the monster hunter games had a theme of living in balance with the environment and monsters were only hunted to help control manageable numbers or if some had gone out of control. Then they were apparently specifically told to tone down their environmental messaging to appeal to a wider audience.

I believe the things you are calling out are an integral part of the ARPG genre so there isn’t going to be much change to the core without fundamentally changing the game you’re playing. Plenty of people enjoy the wanton clicky destruction and seeing numbers rise, just look how popular stuff like cookie clicker is.
Have you tried monster hunter? (Or god eater or wild hearts) Those games sound a lot like what you’re describing. At its heart the core gameplay is ‘Hunt monsters to gather parts to make better gear to hunt more powerful monsters’
Instead of mowing down tones of small things though, you take down a single large and dangerous foe. As you progress, new and more powerful foes appear, but despite the large roster of monsters, they all feel unique. And while better gear certainly helps, a good deal of skill is also required.
