Without interdeparrment communication, good documentation, coordination, signage and, well, maps that included depth data that are maintained and updated in real time, yould have frequent outages each time one works department or private contractor did some digging in an inocuous patch.

  The thing is the suits are forcing release dates that compromise the quality of the software being shipped. Day1 updates are almost mandatory. So unless they pivot to a strategy where they let the team, not the suits, decide when to release, guarantee extended patch support (e.g stop killing games), or offer discs as an eol option, the current model is untenable.
