Luckily New Mexico doesn’t exist anymore.

Filed in 2021. That’s such a long timeframe, makes me wonder if inflation is priced in. If they appeal for three years, will it be inflation adjusted or be increased by central interest rates?

I don’t think that is particularly unusual for a lawsuit. And I don’t know about there, but in the US, they have to pay interest on judgments until it’s paid. In some cases (I don’t know when), you have to put the money in escrow before you can appeal a verdict.

It will get reduced. It was already reduced from $219 billion to $25 billion. It will get cut down or thrown out in appeal, but even if it was $25 billion, they made way more than that in profit specifically due to misleading people on privacy all these years. And this won’t stop them from doing it in the future, it’s just a cost of doing business for these companies not anything that’s enough to change behavior.

This is just New Mexico
I’d be quite suprised if they made that much from New Mexico. It would be nearly $12k per person.
