  The Qing emperor’s didn’t have multiple wives. They had one wife who was the empress. The rest were mere concubines.

    You made me curious, so I looked it up. You’re right in a strict legal and ritual sense. However, in Chinese the practice is commonly described as 一夫多妻 (“one husband, multiple wives”) in a broad, non-legal sense.
