German comedy is incredibly bad, but still one of the most popular genres.
The last good German comedian was Loriot and he died 12 years ago.

Also, German ‘Documentary/Comedy’ is likely a mix of scripted reality shows of the private channels (what the middle and owning classes call ‘^lower class TV’ ), infotainment ( “Hitler’s Megabauten” ) and opinionated comedy news shows (Böhmermann, Welke, Ehring et al.).
