!us_news@lemmy.world is 4 hours old, it is probably not yet federated with your instance. Once someone is subscribed it should start pulling in posts.
!world_news@lemmy.world could not be fetched by my instance, I am guessing it is new as well and the same thing is happening. Either that, or it is set to local only.

Those both are new yes. I just created them yesterday arund 7pm EDT.
Oh cool - thank you! so it’s just federation delayed and stuff but eventually it would self resolve - didnt realize that. nice

Additionally, someone in an external instance can pull older posts by searching their links in the search page, even if you get the link from yet another instance.
Only caveat is if the original post is unreachable, e.g. if communications were blocked ("instance defederated"), DNS or firewall is misbehaving at instance level, the instance is dead, etc.
Also, boosting, a microblogging thing, allows spreading posts further, though a bit more indirectly.
