tbf LG monitors are quite good hardware, but I’ve been buying Dell the last 10 years and never had issues.

Funny that before I switched to linux I would see comments like this and would go “mehh” and now that I’m on Linux for just 3 days I already see that people who are in windowslop are like the people connected to the machines in the matrix. They need their fake steaks while they’re being used to the benefit of others.

After configuring it to your liking it’s so fucking good it’s addicting.

I wonder what would happen to a person if they were to install software onto LG’s computers without their consent.

      A CFA charge.

        That’s what I thought too.

        I didn’t order waffle fries!

(I usually see the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act abbreviated CFAA)

How does the economy work when every company have to rely on adds?

What do you mean “have to?” These companies are making money hand over fist, not paying a large portion of their employees a livable wage, and choose to spy on us for extra profit.

it puts me off ever buying or recommending an Alienware monitor

Why would anyone recommend an Alienware monitor? They don’t make displays. You’re just recommending which branding the display has.

Alienware monitors are Dell monitors, which are usually pretty good in my experience. I don’t know what the deal is with Alienware Control Center. It’s kind of annoying but it’s not spyware.

Right, I’m saying Dell doesn’t make displays. Generally LG makes the displays that Dell uses, but apparently they also use Samsung and AU Optronics. But even then, I believe there’s some Chinese middle-man OEM actually making the displays, and in certain countries (including the US) Dell buys those and slaps their Dell and Alienware branding on them.

It makes sense to recommend an LG/Samsung/AUO monitor, it doesn’t make sense to generally recommend all Dell or Alienware monitors. Maybe a specific product worked well for you, but you can’t broad statements about all their monitors because the only thing they have in common is the brand selling them.

This statement doesn’t contradict yours, they only said they avoid Alienware branded monitors now.

That does not mean the inverse statement is also true, they didn’t say they recommended the whole brand of monitors before.

    That sounds extremely illegal…

It might be, if they hadn’t already agreed to it in the windows ToS, and/or in the LG ToS.

What are you going to do? Sue them? Call 911? Ring up your lawyer?
