A lot of people assume they’re seeing everything always.
One thing I learned in driver’s ed: it’s not the cars you see that get you into accidents.
One thing that really annoys me is when people turn on their signals as they turn, as if it matters at that point.
They’re meant for indicating that you’re about to turn or change lanes, not for notifying other drivers that you’re doing something that they can already see you doing. I’ve ridden as a passenger with numerous drivers that have gotten angry at other drivers for “not letting them in” and yet they never turned on their indicators to show that they even wanted in in the first place.
With the advent of smartphones we were always told not to look at screens in the car as they’re a distraction.
Seen the size of the screens in new cars??
Also, your hand literally pages the turn signal in the correct direction, depending on the way you turn… Why not stick out your finger and turn on your signal?
As important as turn signals are, you should never trust them either. Never encroach oncoming traffic on the assumption that the other driver is going to turn. I’ve seen two totally avoidable accidents caused by that.
I assume it wasn’t drilled into them by whoever taught them to drive. Using turn signals is so natural to me that I don’t think I could stop using them without an extended effort at deprogramming myself.
I think it’s as much absent mindedness as anything else and using a foot, 2 hands, 2 eyes and 2 ears is sensory overload for lots of people.

if youre turning, its not optional.
i dont understand how it isnt just a habit for every driver
