There's thumbwrestling and wrestling, which involves arms, so why isn't armwrestling called handwrestling?

  Well, it's about what body part is doing the heavy lifting. Even in thumb wrestling you interlock at the other fingers, but the thumbs are where the strength is applied.

  Same thing with arm wrestling, you interlock at the hands, but who wins is more based off the strength of your biceps or forearms.
