I’d encourage everyone with an interest in Why We Design Our Homes And Cities Like We Do to have a look at the rest of her content. Concise, informative, charming, shows her research methods and sources which is often as fascinating as the results.

    Simple answer: “greed”.

People found out that serve low income pop is not profitable as serve middle or upper class. Got to squeeze every of penny from real estate value there, in the big city.

As someone single living with mental health challenges, this video really resonated for me. It sucks that the only way of accessing a “home cooked” meal is to pay 3-4 times as much as I would otherwise be paying to feed myself.

My dad took me to an automat when I was pretty young. I don't remember much of the experience.

It’s funny, I saw this posted around before and just today on the news saw how automats are coming to the east coast again.

I went to a Horn & Hardart in the ‘80s. It seemed kinda worn out.

These new ones seem pretty snazzy.

The same thing that happens when you monetize anything.

I think how people want capitalism to work isn’t how it works in reality.
