Wait, isn’t that exactly what they want? And can’t you do a lot more as a federal judge than as a rando? The saying used to be “don’t mess with federal judges–they can lock you in a room and throw away the room!”.

He’s 78 years old. Decent chance hes in poor health. This is an opportunity to try and make a difference that he might not be able to make if he stays in office until he dies

At least his successor has already been determined so it doesn’t give Trump an opportunity to appoint one.
And maybe he can use his legal expertise to help draft lawsuits against some of Trump’s shit and at least slow him down.
Or something.
