Safety.manager here. Guess how many times workers called me a pussy for trying to get them to wear PPE even though I told them what they’re doing causes cancer and their floor supervisor died of said cancer?

There’s definitely some literal “toxic masculinity” in blue collar work, but it sounds like many of these guys weren’t afforded the proper ppe to begin with.

As is often the case, both are correct and I would even assume they benefit eachother.
Promoting toxic masculinity helps if you can’t be bothered with ppe and lack of ppe makes mostly one type of person work in that company.
Have been in woodworking and interior design for some years and it’s a rough environment. As a man, you need to be very „manly“ or people wont accept you. As a woman, you need to either be tough as nails and accept being called a bitch behind your back or be ok with being objectified.
Obviously, just my experience but pretty recent (2021).
